I'm surprised they kept the original policy as long as they had. People totally abused it. It was a bit rediculous.

I have my iPod through Costco, so when it goes up in smoke, I will take it back for a new one.

Honestly I can't blame them , people abuse their return policy and return alsorts of crappy worn out stuff.

Erin works in retail and she will have women return a almost empty jar of facial scrub or make up saying they didn't like it, funny it takes the whole thing to figure out. But she has to smile and take it back anyway.

On a side note, Nordstrom ha sthe same policy as Costco on returns, no questions asked.

90 days isn't so bad compared to other stores. I also have alot of my electronics through Costco and when my Ipod died after a year it was such an easy return. They will blacklist people if they see abuse though but I think alot still get away with things.

what i think is hilarious is how people think that it's hurting Costco........

I thought Costco had deals with all of their vendors that any/all returns go back to them........not Costco.

Additionally.......Sam's Club now has a longer return policy than Costco now...........booo on Walmart!

I think their move to extend the warranty service is a nice consolation though....but I still prefer the old return policy.

As for those that totally abused it......like returning an empty food containers....can be a bit over the top. I did return empty food containers before...but it was because it rotted and started to stink. (all within a few days of purchase)

your point is? i returned the item because I was not satisfied with it or was not using the item. Whats wrong with that?
thats what the return policy is for, hell, i dont think i abused it ... i just used it

did not need the laptop therefore returned, if i had a need for it, would have kept it

thats what the policy is there for

i had an IPAC palm thingy from HP too ... bought it, didnt use it for half a year because didnt have a use for it, returned it

i dont see anything wrong with that ... i would have returned it at 30days if thats the policy, but it wasnt, so i dont see any problem

I've seen people buy flat panel TVs... use them for a few monthes... bring them back... buy another flat panel... and on and on. I think they did it 3 times.

The only reason they were doing it was because they always wanted the newest flat panel. To me, that is really shady. They saw no problem with it though.

I don't understand the arguments that X company doesn't have to pay for it or that the company can afford to eat the return. In the end, someone always has to pay for the return. Whether its Costco or the manufacturer that pays initially, eventually the person that pays will be the consumer. Its kinda like everyone paying extra to account for shoplifting losses.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people that really wants an extended warranty on big purchases. It looks like TVs and computers will get an extended manufacturer's warranty, but not the other big electronics items.

I'm getting ready to buy a D40, and the lack of an extended warranty will drive me to buy elsewhere (Best Buy.. ick).

In the end, I don't believe Costco makes much profit from electronics. I'll wager they make money on memberships and food. Smaller retailers like Radio Shack LOSE money on tv's and the like after sales commission.
