Well I am throwing multiple o2 sensor codes on my 3.0 4x4 Ranger. A total of 4 :confused:
I am looking for a mechanic that is honest and a cheaper sollution than the Stealership. Rangers are pretty notorious for having these issues from what I have read, but I have no way of really testing each sensor. eh. idle dances around, poor gas mileage, and now a noticeable loss in power . . . and that makes a huge difference when you are pulling a trailer! :o
Help!!!

what are they specificly? YOu have the P codes? I have a scanner that does Ford, but I'm in south O.C.
It could be a MAF it's all four sensors

I gotta run back to autozone to get the codes.... I thought it was on the invoice they gave me for the bosch sensors. they are all pcodes. I don't think that it is the MAF b/c they were all in the exhaust system from what it looked like on the diagram. I could definitely be wrong. thanks!

If the MAF is bad, it gives a false reading of air entering the engine, so the ECU corrects fuel trim accordingly. when you have several mixture adaptation faults, its likely a MAF or intake leak.
You have 4 O2 sensors, two on each bank, one pre cat to check mixture, one post cat to see if the cat is being efficent

And not to mention that Rangers, like VWs, have notoriously weak MAFs.

here they are: OMG!!!! All this and I start work @ 2:00.
P1409 = EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
P1451 = EVAP Control System Canister Vent Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
P0135 = O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1
P0141 = O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0155 = O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 2 Sensor 1

found this:
P1409 is caused by a failure in the EGR vacuum regulator circuit. Check to make sure you're getting power to the EGR vacuum regulator, and the solenoid resistance is between 26 and 40 ohms.
P1451 is caused by a failure in the canister vent solenoid circuit. Check to make sure you're getting power to the vent solenoid.
Your O2 sensor DTCs are also circuit failures.
Double check all your fuses.
Either all these solenoids and sensors failed at the same time, there is a problem in your wiring harness, or your PCM has failed. I would recommend you download a copy of the Ford CD for your truck and follow the diagnostics that are provided for these codes.
I was told that It is just the fuse in the box under the hood????? I know that is very vague.
i don't know Fords, but It looks to me like you have a Vaccum leak.
I dont know if your truck has an O2 sensor heater relay, but to have 3 bad o2 sensor heaters at once is unlikely.

thanks Mike! I wish I knew exactly how to figure this out.....bringing it somewhere I know they wanna just replace all the sensors. 50-70 bucks a pop. Doesn't help that I know nothing about Fords!!!!

I find it highly unlikely that all these sensors failed at the same time. I would go with what you found and start checking fuses. It seems that you might not be getting 12v to those circuits.

How do I go about checking these Jason? Fuse tester? thanks!
I have no idea, I would look up the diagram on google for the engine wiring, it should have a fuse, or several that supply the heaters, and possibly a relay

thanks everyone for your help. a friend of mine sent me to a lil hole in the wall shop.....he seemed very honest, so we shall see.
Lon, it is a 1998 XL 3.0 5spd and 4x4
crossing my fingers that it is just a fuse.

Thanks Lon. I did have to replace a few of the sensors. They were shot. So far so good, no codes have come up yet.

Good luck, Chris. If it dies, I vote for a base Xterra! :)
