Hello,

use google.com.
I get an error screen saying it timed out or something
like that, but I can use the google image and maps through
other websites.

try with www. in front that might prevent it sometimes.
Nope.:drama:
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Do you have a router? Have you tried rebooting it?
Do I just unplug the router to reset?
Thanks

You could do that, that would surely cause a reboot.
Or most router admin interfaces will give you an option to reboot the router. Or a lot of them will have reset buttons either on the back or in the front.
But the simplest would be to just unplug the router for a few seconds then plug it back in

Soundslike you had an issue with DNS. Either google is having issues with their DNS or the DNS server you're using is having issues.
I like yahoo for some things and google for other things. One of the main reasons I enjoy Yahoo is because they send me a paycheck every other week.
Who is your testicle sucking employer ? ;)

clear your cache and cookies. if it connects with the ip, but not google.com, it could be a corruption with a cached file. :P

that's what i was going to say. it sounds like your isp's dns server may be down or hosed up. if you can get to google using the ip but can't using the url, that definatly sounds like a dns issue
What is dns? Can I fix it?
Router reb00t didn't do anything.

you cannot fix it. your isp has a dns server in which it resolves names of other sites. best thing i think you can do is call your sevice provider and let them know exactly what kind of problem you are having. they should be able to give you a better idea of what the problem is than i can

DNS stands for Domain Name Service.
DNS is what translates "socaleuro.com" into an IP address of 66.240.255.71
If you open up a dos window (Start -> Run -> cmd)
then run: ipconfig /all
It will show you your current ethenet settings, including the dns servers your computer is using.
First thing I would do is try to ping them. (e.g. ping 66.240.255.71)
or...maybe you accidentally added google.com to the Mozilla deny list ?

what kind of router to you have?...it depends...i have a cisco router/switch and if i unplug it does not reset anything.... ....if you have a cisco router there should be a reset botton...hold that botton for 7 sec. and it should reset....or renew your IP "go to start>programs>Accessories>Communications>network connections>local area connection>click the tab that saids "support" and click "repair"....hope that helps..

if you do that it will reset the routers entire config, i'm not sure you want to do that. by default those linksys (which i'm pretty sure are owned by cisco) routers are set to dhcp. so it will pick up its ip address from the isp on it's own. pretty much every time you, first power off you modem then your router, then turn them back on in the same order, it always resets your ip. the isp tends to refresh thier dhcp i think every 6 months.
despite my previous paragragh, i really think your problem is with DNS. if you were having the above problem with the ip on your router you wouldn't even be able to get to the internet.

i have a linksys router and i turn it off every night and when i turn it back on the config are saved in the NVRAM...unless you press the reset button all your configs are saved in the router....i don t think his ISP blocked google for him....hehe....i think firefox has to many bugs...i use IE much better...

turning it off and reseting it are two completely different things. turning it and the modem off and turning them back on causes the ip to refresh. if you notice also i said if you are running dhcp server on your router. and right now the safest browser is ie6. ff isn't as bad as ie7, since it was just released it has the most potential for 0 day vulnerabilities. I also advise people not to buy vista just yet either. it is new and still has the potential to be hacked. atleast wait till the first service pack is released. and the isp may not have intenetionally blocked it but there is a possibility that there is a dns conflict. also i think someone mentioned before that firefox does have the option to block specific site per the user, that also may be the problem.

Use www.dogpile.com (http://www.dogpile.com) if you can't seem to use google.
It's like Yahoo, MSN, Google, and Ask.com crammed into ONE....
