Those of you in the IT field. Is your work making a huge deal out of this DST time change this year ?
I know they are over at my work. People are acting like it's y2k all over again.
We never did anything special during all the previous time changes. Just make sure your machines are patched and you're good to go.
They're making us be oncall and available pretty much the entire weekend, especially during the 2am switchover.
Anyone up for some counterstrike Sat. night through Sun. morning ?

I need to build up an old desktop again to rock CS, those were the fun days. As for the huge deal, I'm an IT guy in a company of 8 including me and things seem pretty calm :).

It depends on what types of systems you work with.
We have some legacy systems that are waiting to be retired and the vendor won't even support a patch for them. That leads to a whole lot of validation of processes to make 100% certain everything will run if the time on the box is off. Luckily the only systems we were concerned with are smaller and non-critical.
The windows boxes are easy. All you have to do is install the patch. Even in those environments some software does it own calculation outside the OS so the patch from MS will do nothing to help.
I'm confident the systems I work with are ready for the change but only because we put in a great deal of effort to validate things.

Well, the previous time changes were planned for. This one is early, hence why it's a big deal.
Exchange is being a pain in the ass with upcoming meetings.
A bunch of embedded stuff is going to be quite a hassle (my city is going to have a crew out all week to manually change the traffic lights, school zone indicators and the like).
The Java patch came out too late, in my opinion, considering the lead time they had to get it done.
All in all, not Y2K worthy, but definitely an annoyance.
Don't forget too, that the rest of the world hasn't changed, so TJ, for example, will be an hour off for the next couple of weeks.
Just count yourself lucky you aren't in Pulaski County ,Indiana. Not only are they moving the clocks for DST, they're also moving from Central to Eastern time.
heh.

Yeah... I got kinda jacked by that one. In a big company, after the patch is ready, we have to get permission to install it because it isn't standard yet. Between the lateness of the patch and our own internal beauracracy... I just barely got the patch officially into my hands on wednesday. Of course... I had already done my own "preliminary testing" as soon as the patch was available.
