The automatic windows on my GTI seem to not want to work anymore.
My driver's side works sometimes going down but not up, and my passenger side has stopped working completely.
What can I do to try and fix this on my own without taking it to a shop or the dealer?
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

try using your key in the door from the outside using the convenience close and open feture. if that doesn't work lemme know and i'll PM you the procedure to reset basic settings on the windows.

My windows work. I can roll them up and down. It's just the automatic roll down/up doesn't want to work.
Just wanted to make sure that was clear. I will go try the convenience feature and see if it will fix the problem.

roll down the windows and hold down on the button for like 5 seconds. Then do the same thing but in the up position and that will reset the automatic roll up and down

Didn't work.
Here's what I notice:
This is based on the 2 positions of the controller switch. Position 1 is when you slightly depress the switch to do a manual control of the window. Position 2 is when you push it past position 1 to get the window to automatically roll up/down.
On the drivers side, postion 1 doesn't do anything whether rolling up or down. If pushed to position 2 it gives me manual control of the window. If I push it to position 2 twice (holding it for 2 seconds or so the second time) it will roll down automatically. I do not get the same affect going up.
On the passenger side, Position 1 and Position 2 both work as manual control of the window. I do not have the ability to do an automatic roll up/down at all.
I have tried what joe18tbo112 and Ravinjetta have suggested but neither worked to fix this. I am thinking maybe replacing the actual switches might be in order.

Well after conferring with a few people it looks like I am going to need new switches for the driver side.
Aside from the stealership, does anyone know where I can order these?

That's too funny... I was looking at that sight right now. That's where I ordered my center console from, and I only just remembered the site.
