And my damned torx bit snapped on an exhaust cam cover bolt!

I was so pissed. I had gone to Sears because a torx bit set seems to be the only thing I didn't have and they didn't have the craftsman ones. They only had the Lisle set. I figured that would be okay but I guess not.

When the bit snapped, I thought I broke off the bolt head. I was actually kinda relieved it was the tool that broke. Now my car is sitting at my parents house with the intake cam out and the exhaust cam still in. I won't be able to work on it until next weekend. At least now I have a craftsman set of torx bits. Hopefully they will fare better.

I noticed, on the one bolt I did break loose, that the exhaust side seems to be torqued down quite a bit more than the intake side. The second bolt snapped my bit. I thought everything was supposed to be 10 N/m but it seems like either the heat or stress or something was making those bolts bind.

hahaha just be thankful it was the bit and not the bolt...couple weeks ago I was replacing my lifters and when I put the cam back in, I used my neighbors ridiculously large tq wrench, just to make sure I had 25ft/lb on the bolts, and wound up shearing 2 studs that the cam followers mount to. This led to the most impressive stream of expletives from my mouth to date.

then I called my friend at Autotech down the street, who pulled a bunch of extra studs out of an old block for me, and even let me borrow a decent pair of vicegrips!

good luck
