Saw a faded red Scirocco backed into a driveway on Acacia in Hemet. Awesome car.
I've never seen a Scirocco in real life, or a Corrado. Thought I would see a Corrado on the street first before a Scirocco.
First time posting in SCE. Hello there.

Umm I've lived in Chula Vista, but I wasn't a Dub nut till about a year ago. And in Hemet... Cars i've heard of nearby that are rare are a Mark II 16v w/ quad lights, the Red Scirocco, a Dragon Green SLC Rado that my dad spotted on his way home. That's about it...

I wish... I hear they are harder to maintain than a Rado... Which steers me clear away from them. Rado is about the hardest route ima go.
But hey. I have the utmost respect for Sciroccos, without them; Dawn of the Dead wouldn't have been as interesting, and Corrados wouldn't have been born.

Hehehe funny story when I bought my first 86' 16v MKII Scirocco (RIP) back in 93'. The guy I bought it from had a Corrado too and it had just eaten another water pump. He almost didn't let me take the Scirocco saying that it was more dependable than his Raddo'.
Now that Scirocco was broken into thru the sunroof in 00' and during the next rainy season water leaked on the fuse/relay panel slowing killing off all the electrics in the following years. After that and a couple of people ran into it, I bought two more since then and parted out that first one.

Now the guy on my block has been complaining about all the little problems his Corrado has been giving him, water pump, fuel injection issues, electric windows and rear spoiler not working.
My 87' is a daily driver (well when I don't ride my motorcycle) and only the sunroof doesn't work due to when I had it in storage some jack ass used the car as a scaffold to trim a tree and broke it. The AC could use a recharge and that's about it.
My route home can either be the 5 or the back roads through Rancho Sante Fe into Encinitas where the car gets hammered through the turns. And it likes it...

JUST KIDDING!... But damn, that's awesome... Maybe you're just really lucky?
I'm neutral on the topic of which is more durable and stuff. Some have very good stories, while others have stories that sound like a Stephen King horror story.
I guess some people don't baby thier car enough.

Anytime your talking about 17-30 yr old cars, reliability will always be an issue. The 82 I had was one of the most reliable cars ive ever owned. It never left me stranded on the road but that came with a price. Cant be afraid to replace parts as it needs it or replace parts that could fail.
Scirocco's (rabbits too, all A1 chassis cars in general) are easy cars to work on, parts are fairly cheap. Very basic simple cars.

Well not necessarily all 17-30 yr old cars...
I used to be a Mopar guy, dad owns a 69 Dodge... Thing never brakes and it isn't even restored at all, it's a project deep in the works and it runs and stuff...
But American cars aren't my thing anymore. V-Dub for life!
I'm looking forward to and ready for all the electrical problems a Corrado or Mark II/III can throw at me.
All good...
But I wonder if that guy w/ the red Rocco is on here. probably just a guy who doesn't know what he has...

Really, lucky? Sure if having a car pried open like a can of tuna so some morron can take some burnt CDs and throw my paper work all over the street, then after that some tool smashing in the quater panel then two weeks later on the same stretch of road a dill weed switches lanes sans signal taking out the front fender or having another Jackass walk across the top of another car that was an other wise clean car making the top look like the Rockets did a demo on it breaking the sunroof and antenna or when that one was broken into via prying open the passanger side door lucky? Then yeah my life is bowl of Lucky frigg'n Charms and the short dude with the funny accent is my copilot!!!
Ummm yeah I wouldn't say really lucky but I scored some decent running cars and have been spending what seems like a pot O' gold getting them the way I want (still not done). Speaking of which where is that little clover chewing, irsh spring smelling, little pointed shoe strutin, green hat wearing, end of the rainbow waiting, marshmellow stuffed, sugar coated cereal pusher?:D I could use some more of that there gold.
Hey good luck on your Corrado, a proper sports car with looks and performance to boot!

 Oh.... Ok.. well with the current cars, pretty lucky. Not too bad I think. (I hope?)
If I do get a Rado, I will probably need a LOT of luck lol.

Just know, the ONLY difference between a Mark I and a Scirocco is the sheet metal. All the mechanics are the same.

... eh... Oh boy... I never thought of that, but it makes a lot of sense... That stirs up A LOT of questions...
