Police and Fire: Officials this morning identified a 24-year-old man killed Wednesday night when the car he was driving struck a tree along eastbound Highway 126 in Ventura.
Matan Zaks of Littlerock was pronounced dead at 9:56 p.m. at the crash site, said Michael Feiler, a Ventura County senior deputy medical examiner.
Zaks was traveling eastbound on Highway 126 about a half-mile east of Kimball Road in Ventura when he lost control of his car, officials said.
The vehicle slammed into a palm tree on the side of the road, hard enough to uproot it, according to the Ventura City Fire Department.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
