You can get to this by removing the plastic shield under the engine, 4 torx screws on either side. The oil filter housing required a 36mm socket to open it up.

so i have to remove the filter in order to drain the oil? isnt there just a drain plug?

you'd remove the drain plug.......and the filter (gets replaced)....every time.

well i just want to change my oil between factory oil changes (every 10K). so i would do it every 5K miles, without changing the oil filter. just draining the oil and putting new oil in.

would this work? or would i have trouble with the dealer?
the reason im doing this is because i drive lots of miles and my oil is pretty bad every 5K miles. i would want to do this without the dealing knowing. what do you think?

that little thin peice on the bottom gets twisted off, then you need to push up on the seal to let the oil drain. I used an old pencil and let her drain all the way. Then remove the whole canister, dump the old filter, replace new filter, check to see that the seal is in fact seated, fill with oil, drive another 10K

why would you go through the trouble of draining and not replacing the filter??

if your oil looks like crap after driving.......then its got stuff in it that the filter cannot totally get out......and it might be because the filter is clogged / dirty and losing efficiency..........

it's not an expensive piece of the puzzle.......and WELL worth the motor life.
