So my 97 gti 2.0 just clocked over 90k miles. Was going through my receipts and the timing belt and serp belt were done at 55 k, but it was back in 2002 so i figure i should do that just for good measure. Along with new water pump, wires, spark plugs, front wheel bearings and front brake rotors. this seem like a decent list? car runs well, but i'm pretty sure i'm at a small loss of power.

You guys think i could notice a little more umph on my butt dyno with this work done, along with my giac chip, and tt exhaust with the borla muffer coming up within 2 months or so. Any input is greatly appreciated. i just got a house with a ginormous driveway so i can do most of that shiz on my own, though i really don't want to touch the timing belt without someone with experience there.

T belt is easy, water pump is easy too. at 90K I would do a cap, rotor, Nuespeed wires are good and cheap, fuel filter, air filter. Its all cheap easy stuff.

My MK3 ABA has every bolt on short of a turbo and runs like a top, at 150K, it still has tons of life in it.

Changing to synthetic in the engine and trans will free up some power and make life easier on the internals, don't worry about oil leaks, thats an old wives tale
