so all this time i thought that i had knock in my engine or something was clicking i found out i'm wrong and that it's my transmission. that's the good news i know what is making the noise. the bad news, i have no idea what it means. It only happens when the i'm in low RPM (idle to about 1500RPMs) and what i do is let the clutch out and give it a little gas. and it will start klunking. i don't know how to describe the sound. it's as though there is something getting smacked every rotation. i can only hear it at these low speeds i can't hear it going faster but that doesn't mean it's not there. anyone have this problem? any ideas? i should also mention that when i'm at idle and out of gear and the clutch is engaged it makes a similar but softer noise and when i disengage the clutch the sound goes away.

anyone have a ducatti or heard a ducatti like a 996 or something. you know when it's idleing and the clutch is making that noise the clicking noise. that's what it sounds like. the car only has 61,000 miles i don't know why i would need a new clutch already i am pretty gentle on my car i don't drop it in gear from high RPMs or anything. and i shift pretty smoothly, or at least my little brother thinks so. although his only comparison is my other brother and his mazda... thanks in advance!

It sounds like the throw-out bearing is going out. Or out. It could be from having the clutch out of adjustment or leaving a little pressure on the pedal too often.

can i replace that bearing without replacing the clutch? i know you have to replace one with the other but i don't know if it works the other way.

You can replace your bearing without replacing your clutch but normally if the transmission is apart then why not. Sounds to me like it could also be either your clutch fork or one of the pressure fingers on the pressure plate of the clutch assembly. Could have gotten bent, broke off or what not. I met some one that had a couple of fingers break off from their pressure plate. He thought the clutch fork bent a bit and came in contact with the pressure plate. However it could be anything...

so you're thinking replace the whole trans? or replace the clutch/throw out before it gets any worse? this is going to suck since i just spent the money to replace my bald tires. go figure right.

I haven't heard that happen before but that doesn't mean it can't happen. The more common cause for that kind of sound is the throw out bearing/ clutch. That would be my best bet. Have you noticed any other trouble with the tranny?

Im supposed to get a brand new eurospec transmission this week and Im replaceing the differential with a new Quaife. Either my older transmission might have the parts you need or the old differential if it is indeed that is your problem. So, I might be able to help ya. Only thing is that I am in Yuma, AZ.

i've noticed that the clutch is still hanging on to the fly wheel just a little tiny bit and it's causing the transmission to have a hard time getting into gear. i'm think that maybe a finger broke and is still applying pressure OR that bearing is gone and has un-aligned the clutch.

that would be awesome but i think you may have a differnt transmission. i have the O2J trans for the 2 liter 5 speeds. the clutch may be the same but i'm not sure. if it turns out to be the clutch and yours fits we can work something out. i'll get back once i find out what's going on.

someone made a comment about brazilian built VWs a while ago, i'm beginging to see that he's right.
