Hello, everybody.
I was wearing my chopped Audi hat/visor (hat cut into a visor with a knife) when a guy on my ship spotted it and pointed me towards SoCal Euro. And here I am.
My name is Tony and I drive a '04 A6 2.7T S-line. Naturally, I have been searching for a bunch of upgrades that I will probably never do, and I have a few questions. On APR's website, it seems like the '03 and '04 cars don't exist. After '02, everything just kind of stops. (maybe just for the 2.7T) so let's say for a K04 upgrade, or for a chip, do those prices and codes not apply to my car, or is it all the same after '02? Again, I probably won't ever upgrade my turbos (although I would LOVE to) but I am kind of curious as to how this all works. I've only had the car since the end of April, and I have been at sea for most of that time, so I have only looked under the hood once. I'm sure I can think of several dumb questions, if anyone cares to answer them for me.

Well, thanks for your time and I hope to meet some of you at the muffin place in Escondido, when I get back.
Tony

you might want to give ingolstadt west a look.. they've been helping me out and seem to know pretty much all there is to know.. www.ingolstadtwest.com (http://www.ingolstadtwest.com/) they specialize in audi and deal with apr products

well APR lost most of his head engineers sometime around 2002-2003. Might explain why they stopped supporting the A6.

My guess is, the 2002 software is not the same as the 2003,2004 ecu's.

You could also check out www.giacusa.com or www.revotechnik.com .. and see if GIAC or REVO offer a ECU upgrade for the A6 2.7t.

hope to see you around SD

No, I'm talking about the one in Escondido, which is in North County, San Diego. It's going to be a few months, though, because I'm still at sea (in the Gulf, in fact), and I'll get home just in time for Christmas madness.

Now the thing I've heard about some chip manufacturers is that the chip will do bad things to the turbos, but there was one in particular that was "proven?" not to. I saw some big matrix that showed the number of damaged turbos for each type of chip and car. It was kind of confusing, since I had no idea what was what, or what car had what engine. Like I said, I probably won't be modifying this car, but if this car becomes more my car than my wife's car, I might be able to do something WAY down the road.
I'm just starting to learn that stuff. In fact, if anyone can point me towards something to tell me what all these chassis codes are, that would help me out a lot, too. (I may be buying an '05 S4 which is a B6? Is that right?)

Umm, next question. Do I have 2 of the same turbos, or do I have one small one for quicker spool-up and a bigger one for more boost? Does anyone have any pictures of 2.7Ts out of their cars, so I can see how this is all set up?

Is there a new ('04-'05) S4 with turbos and if so, what is it called?

I have about 5 more questions for you, but I forgot them all. So I'll go take a look at those other sites you gave.
See you later,
Tony

you definitely been overseas :)

the new B6 S4 is normally aspired V8. No more turbos on the current S4

you have same turbos ... sequential turbo is the setup if you have 1 turbo that comes on different time than the 2nd turbo

Ha Ha. Yeah, I have been gone for about 4 months. It has given me a chance to see some of the Audis in other countries. Like the 2.4L A6s that the rest of the workld got, but I don't think they have them in the states, right? I went to a dealer in Dubai, UAE, but I was with a non-car guy, so I really only had time to look in the merchandise case, and I didn't have time to talk to a salesman and see if I could get him to let me drive an RS6. (used, I'd assume)
The Duabi Audi showroom is also where I went from not liking the new A6/A8 nose, to LOVING it. I guess pictures didn't do it justice for me.

About the S4 with turbos, I think I just badly phrased the question. I know the old S4s have the 2.7T that I have in my A6. And I know that the new S4s are V8s. (I have built this car so many times on AudiUSA.com that I think I qualify for a free A4)
But take the 4.2L motor. In an A4, it makes it an S4. In an A6, it's a 4.2L A6. With TT in an A6, it's an RS6. What if you were to put turbos on a 4.2L motor in an S4? Would that make something with a name, or would it just be some crazy custom?
Maybe a better question is, what is an RS4?

And for the turbos on my car, I think I really need to see a picture of how the plumbing is routed, because I don't see how I can even have 2 turbos. I don't doubt that they're there, but I really need to get home and spend some time under that car.

(edit: Well, there are a few other things that I will tend to before I start climbing under cars, but that's not really something for this forum ;) )

The B6 RS4 - if it comes out - will be the 4.2L with twin turbo (this is still in prototype)

and its not easy to twin turbo the 4.2L in the current S4 because there is very little room in the engine bay ... people still waiting to see if Audi can manage it properly for the RS4 they are designing

the RS6 is the twin turbo 4.2L in the A6 chassis ...

the old B5 RS4 is a B5 S4 with beefy internals and lil bigger turbos

so you got the overall concept down

Cool, I answered one of my questions with another one of my questions.

My next one is about production numbers. Is there a site that tells how many of each kind of Audi were made? I have seen them for the number of Taurus SHOs made and I've seen the one for the number of 300ZXs made (even had how many of each color) but I can't find anything on how many Audis were made. Yeah, I am looking to find out how many A6 S-lines were made, cause I'm a geek like that.
(edit: I have never even looked for the number of GTPs made, because I know there were a lot of them, and mine was one of 3 special cars made on a Monday, while the workers were especially hung over)

Thanks for your help, guys. (and ladies?)

ill bet there's a lot of A6 S-lines around ...
i think the only #'s that you'll find are for RS4, RS6
