It's a possibility.

My friend and I have been doin' work for a few companies and have taken our contacts/writing out and started to freelance our work. My friend has been doin' a lot of the interviews for www.thedailychorus.com and I've been doin' a lot of CD reviews for www.yousuckirule.com (coupedeville66) and will be starting reviews for www.smartpunk.com.

It's really not that hard. Just take a remedial course in writing for journalism and start writing CD reviews/interviews for local bands and CDs you pick up; then submit them to websites, e-zines, and magazines. From there you just have to make the contacts with managers, publicists, booking agents, etc and ask them for help. Most bands love free publicity like that so they'll most will be willing to sit down as long as you have credentials to back you up.

I'm not fortunate enough to get paid yet, but hopefully this rolls over into something like that.

*shrugs*

I agree that some of the bands aren't the same caliber as before, but what can ya do? Most of the bands out these days don't really amaze me at all, but I try to appreciate the music for what it is.

If you do happen to cruise by Warped Tour make sure to check out the smartpunk.com stage for some hard-working independent bands.

Also check out my friends in New Year's Day. They're rad.

I'm out of town when it comes to San Diego. Lots of good bands, but I'd like to see Revolution Mother (Mike Valelly's new band).

Also the bands vary depending on the venue. For example, whomever is playing in Denver may not necessarily play in SD.
