So, as I shared once, my Dad has been car shopping for 6 months or so.
He's newly retired and has outlived the 1996 Mercedes-Benz C220 he's had for ~7 years.

At first, he was thinking wagon [I guess for his golf clubs / moving furniture around], and he loved the look of the B6 Passat wagons.

I eventually convinced him it was too big for his needs [and, as he'd only consider 4-cylinders, it'd be underpowered, even for an old man like him ]
So at the SD Auto Show this winter, I tried to steer him towards an A3:

But again the 6-cyl problem arose; he plans to move to central Oregon [where it snows], and Quattro is only available on the 3.2L V6.
More importantly, ever since a lemon Audi 80LS he had as a young navy guy decades ago, he's hated Audis.

I tried talking him into a Subaru WRX wagon, thinking it was the perfect fit for him .. AWD, small wagon .. and a turbo just for fun!

But after seeing / test-driving a 5-door mk5 GTI with DSG, he was sold on one ...

Was supposed to buy one up here on his last visit, but decided to sell his Benz first.
He's going to sell it to a friend, though, and the transaction hadn't yet taken place, when he met some 80-year-old guy last weekend who mentioned that his lease was almost up, and he wanted to ditch his car, as he also had a Lexus, and his wife had cancer.
So he picked up this new car of his for under $15,000.
It's only three years old ... and has under 13,000 miles, thanks to this old guy.
No pics yet [will probably take a year for my Dad to figure out the Digicam ...], but it looks something like this:

An mk4 GTI, silver ... not a 337 or 20th AE, but it's a 6-speed manual 24v VR6 ... all this for an old guy whose fastest car in my lifetime was a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300E.
So yeah .. if anyone back home has some spare time and wants to do a hit, PM me ... I don't have much money, but I've got this lovely mk3 Golf [The only reason my Dad likes VWs at all!]

and one final note about my own car: Techtonics Tuning chip install next week :)
I miss all my SCE homies ... I'm reduced to hanging with a crew up here that's 50% Subaru!!
But our roads are sooo much better!!
Maybe I'll come visit with my Dub some day [next year maybe ...]
For now, peace!
