Went to China for two weeks—one week each in Beijing and Shanghai. Did the tour guide thing and my friend and I brought our bikes, so we rode the world's largest skatepark and did some street riding in each city. An overall amazing time. I shot a bunch of digital, but anything I really thought would look good, I shot black and white. I had planned to shoot some color film and cross-process it as well, but it was pretty much overcast every single day, so black and white worked better anyway. I have more prints, including my favorite of the trip, but I need to wait for them to get back from the production department here at work before I can scan them myself.
The last photo was shot by my friend. Before we went, I told him I wanted a photo of myself in a sea of people. Composition isn't perfect and I look like an ape, but I still like it.

Difference between quality scans (2 & 3) and a cheap flatbed... Sorry, I don't scan photos myself too often.

wish i would have thought of that idea "sea of people pic" when i went to vietnam :)
In this day and age I would think everyone would be shooting photos in color?:p

Shooting in color and then converting it to black and white, maybe. There's no point in shooting color when half the photo is gray.
B&W is stillcool and gives you a second, calmer perspective, muted tones in a grey scale. Great photos of a fun trip I'm sure
Did you see the markets with the dried "animals" and bugs for sale?

China is the best vacation place, in my opinion
lots of thigns to see (sightseeing) lots of things to do, and its cheap !!
you can live like a king and go home and not worry about your wallet
downside of china, lots and lots of smokers and the smog ...

Brilliant shots bro and processing! Some day I too will see China....I've had a couple of chances to go for 3 weeks and 1 month..but it was for work, and the wifey denied me.

My friend isn't a professional photographer. I told him to point the red square at me, focus, and fire it off. No big deal.
And as a whole, "they" weren't really that short. I'm 6'1" and i'm on my tippy-toes in that photo.
I'll post up a couple more photos over the next few days. I searched for the digital equivilant of a couple of photos (since I shot in both formats a lot of the time), but can't seem to find the specific photo I had in mind.

Snuck that in there...the trip was definitely worth it. In two weeks, I spent less than two grand (including the $770 roundtrip tickect, a $90 overnight train ride, and $450 in hotel fees) and I spent about $500 in random un-necessary stuff (psst, my new dvd and gawdy watch collection) and lived better than I do out here.
The one riding photo of myself from the entire trip:

Nice photos, the B&W is perfect, IMHO.
Ryan did you have any probs getting your bike on the plane? I know that used to be a huge issue for Mike. We'd have to call it "excercise equipment," to not get a fee for it.

Sweet pics dude. I dig the black and whites.
I've also heard and seen lots of stuff about that crazy skatepark. Glad you were able to sneak a few runs in. I'll make it out there one day.
