I went out looking for some wildlife last week so I could use this new lens. Found these nesting ospreys on top of a telephone poll! I love having a telephoto! All were shot at 300mm, 1/500 sec, f/8.

This one is a bit soft. (I was moving quickly so I wouldn't miss the wings being spread!)

This great blue heron flew right over my head.

Thanks. Yeah it's so nice having a telephoto now. I'm heading out now to go shooting again. Hope to find something good!

lol, gotta love some extension ;) Man, thats not even a costly lens, just checked on the price. Let me know how you like it as I was in the market for some longer reach myself.
I am looking at this right now... Sigma 50-500Mm F4-6.3 Ex Dg Hsm

manny, thats a nice lens. hear a lot of good reviews about it. i'm thinking of picking up the 100-300 f4 from them.
a4 i like the #2. i like the perspective of #3, but could probably use a vertical crop with the bird on the lower part of the photo.
good work all in all!

Yeah it's not pricey at all. I got mine used (but seems brand new to me) for $150!!!! I knew I couldn't go wrong for that price. I'd like to have the "Bigma" too. Does that have some sort of image stabilization? f/6.3 is pretty slow. The f/5.6 on mine is somewhat of a hindrence. I have to turn up the ISO to get fast shutter speeds.

I'm probably going to rent it first to see if I like what I see...I want to do some surf shots, and some wildlife as well.

Well make sure to set the shutter speed for whatever focal length you're using. 500mm needs to be at the very least 1/500th sec. I've been shooting at or above 1/500 with mine at 300mm. On another note. I went out shooting today. Got some good shots. But a few times I wish I had more zoom. This is addicting. :p

Tell me about it, I'm looking for adapters that can mate a telescope to my D80 :hitit::hitit::hitit::hitit::ha:

The guys at Calumet talked me out of getting either one of the tele converters. They said I should just get the longer reach lens instead of spending the loot for the 2.8 and dropping the stops, and also my pictures would probably be way better then the results of the 200 with tele.. I should rent one to see for myself ;)
