Ritz is overpriced.

Shop around. I'm not sure about the quality of the included lenses, you'll have to ask the Nikon guys. Also check www.dpreview.com.

He listed the d40x, that link to bh is the d40.

I was gonna mention ritz being overpriced, but compared the d40x on both sites and they're actually the same price.

The 18-55mm is the kit lens that usually comes with the D40(x) kits. It runs about $150-$170.
The 55-200mm is the non VR(vibration reduction) version it runs $150-$170.

I think he should weigh the options between the D40 and D40X. Is $200 worth the extra megapixels and slightly faster continuous shooting?

The D40(x) doesn't have an internal auto-focus motor and he'll be limited to Nikon AF-S or Sigma HSM lenses unless he wants to manually focus. If he thinks he might be interested in more lens options, he might want to consider the D50 or D70(s). Or for a little more the D80. There's always the Canon 350D and 400D too.
