I ride, I used to have a 04 CBR600RR, I sold it in 05 thinking I was moving overseas :(

Anyways, I just got an 07 Kawai z1000.

Cool, you're taking the MSF, I recommend that to anyone interested in getting started as it will show if you have an aptitude for riding.

Insurance for mine (liability only) is 261 for the year, if I wanted full it was 700+. I don't plan on leaving my bike in an area where it could get stolen.

For a bike, go to Fun Bike Center or Alba, I have two roommates that work there, if you go to FBC, ask for Justin, and ask for AJ at alba (even though he's finance) let them know Duke referred them to you and they'll hook you up.

R6 is not that big of a bike . . . I guess for beginners it is great but I grew out of it really fast. Depends on how aggresssive you ride and how fast you get the hang of it. You can then chip it and do some sporty upgrades, but you might be better off with a GSXR 750 as a starter bike. Good size, and you can ride as slow or as fast as you want and you won't be disappointed.

Sort of NWF, but always a joy to take a look.

R6 still makes about 110+ HP, that's plenty of bike, it will do 0-60 in under 3 seconds and top 155MPH. It can be a good first bike if you treat it with respect and realize you can be deaded quicker than you can even imagine.

Ride safe.

first bike and an R6? Good luck with insurance, better get a quote before you buy, you might be surprised.

I'm scared shitless in traffic in SoCal, I don't trust anyone. Everyone I know who has a bike has been majorly fucked up, I'll stick to 4 wheels

Pshhhh.. R6... :p
Go balls out man! My first bike was a 2001 R1. Learned on that, then got a GSXR 600. They are more nimble and more fun to ride than a liter bike. IMO.
