sooo first off the bad news i sold my car, but i've got two pieces of good news.
1. i sold it to my dad!
2. i get to buy a new car!

now i know i posted up questions about saabs, bmw's etc... but what i need to know needs to come from someone at the dealership really.. i'd kill for a 2006/5 bmw 335i coupe.. BUT i'm trying to stick close to something under $30k.. i know that MSRP is $40k for brand new ones.. my question is.. since i'll be buying around December/Jan time frame... is it safe to think that i could get one for close to $30k at that time? or is that too hopeful of a price drop.. the big thing is that i don't really understand if MSRP is usually lower/higher than what most dealerships ask etc.. which is why i need someone who has some experience.. and i'm sorry for all the questions but i have NEVER bought a new car before in my life :( thanks for help with my noobishness in advance

this post isn't only about the 335i coupe it's really about pricing for any new car.. so recent buyers feel free to chime in even if you didn't buy a beemer

not a chance in hell.

G37 > 335 unfortunately. More reliable, no overheating issues on track.

That said, ;) get yourself a used Elise for 32k :P

i completely understand that elise = track hotness... but i cannot for the life of me get over how they look.. i'd drive a civic before an elise.. despite the godly performance.. so a g37 huh? i'm open to anything that has a 6 cylinder in it :tup2:

SO not practical for a daily driver, though.

I used one for a few days, and i absolutely could not live with it as my only car. So I got the M3 :)

Do some research. Google G37 tons of info out there.

For a fun daily and reliability, I have to agree with the G37

Consumerreports.org offers new car buyer's service...there's a fee for it, but they will get you the invoice on the car and the bottom line price...etc.

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/customer-service/consumer-reports-advice-and-prices-on-buying-a-new-car/index.htm?page=index&section=:cars&pdxview=CRO

My wife is a Dealer in North County and she said that is a tool that would piss off any GM. Might be worth it if you plan on paying that much.

Buying a new car, keep in mind a few things.

You don't have to finance through the dealership. You can get the VIN, and MSRP of a vehicle and go to your bank or credit union to get a rate. They want your interest too! That gives you bargaining power when you go in and they pull the old, "You're lucky to even get financed...$500/month is the best we can do." You then drop the, "Well, my bank can do this much for $XXX.00/month." They make lots on F&I (financing).

If you don't use the consumerreports thing, go to KBB.com, Edmunds.com, and NADAguides.com (this is the governing organization for all automotive dealers in the US)...print all the info you can on the car you want to buy and use that for leveraging a better price.

DON'T!!!!! buy extended warranty. Your factory warranty is good for X number of miles...when that expires, then you buy an extended warranty if you're keeping the car. Dealers love to sell you extended warranty up front...and don't bother to inform you that it overlaps with your factory warranty of 50k or 60k miles.

Don't buy undercarriage coating or any of that b.s. unless you plan on living in the mountains. Cars don't rust in southern CA unless you park right on the beach.

DO!!!!! buy Gap Insurance. If your car is stolen, blows up, your you get t-boned by an illegal with no insurance...you may owe $25k on the loan, but the car's value has depreciated to $17k...you're responsible for what the insurance company won't cover. SOL.

If you don't plan on keeping the car for more than 3 or 4 years, consider a lease. Many manufacturers offer great lease incentives because it drives return business. Dont' be fooled by the "you can't customize anything if you lease" stories. That lease comes back as a used vehicle that gets sold on the lot. If you added rims, sport springs, anything that's pretty and makes that car more marketable for the used car department, they'll take it as is. You can always revert back to stock or sell it private party and try to make a couple bucks.

Hope that's a little helpful info...good luck!

stay away from the 335, they are having issues. I would recommend an Infinity or Lexus if you want a reliable DD in that range, there is always an A4 from Audi if you wanna stay german, plus the 2.0T is a killer motor

I would sell the S60R...should have about 20k miles by then and would be in that price range. I'm thinking about grabbing up a Jaguar S-Type R if I can find one.
