So, i walked out to my car the other day after work only to find a ticket on my windshield for expired tags.
this is the first i'd heard about my tags expiring, and i never got a notice from the DMV requesting renewal.
so that was a week ago.
today, I get a notice of delinquent registration payment from the DMV stating that I now owe double my original registration fee.
so, a $50 ticket + $87 registration fee = $137 of government shafting...
and to think, I pay them to do this to me.

...but honestly, don't you keep track of such things? I know if I don't get a notice in the mail, all I have to do is look at my plate to see when it expires...same month, every year...

You got lucky. I got pulled over and my car towed once. About 550 bucks for that... I won't let it happen again though

It's not the DMVs responsibility to make sure that you keep up-to-date with your tags/paperwork.
Like it was stated before... I know when my registration is up based on my current tags. If it starts getting close to that date and I haven't recieved anything I get a little worried.

it's the first full year i've had the car, and i guess the reason I let it lapse is because I actually didn't take delivery of the car until august...I think the registration was almost up when I found the car for sale, and I agreed to pay the registration fees so the seller wouldn't have to...or something.
this won't happen again.
