At 4:24 this afternoon, I was headed southbound on I-5 between Norwalk and Buena Park, a few miles before Anaheim. I know this because I took a photo of an all-black Passat wagon -- black badge, black (smoked) tail lights, etc., and the digital photo is time-stamped.
Traffic was stop-and-go, slow-and-go, right before I-5 widens from 3 lanes to 4 plus the car-pool lane.
At 5:55 I pulled into my driveway in San Diego, near the Adams Ave exit off I-805 south of Mission Valley.
I did not know it was possible, even theoretically possible, to travel from Anaheim to central San Diego during the afternoon rush hour in 1 hour 31 minutes.
I did not drive exceptionally fast -- mostly 75-80, never over 85.
There was no traffic. Not at the I-5/I-405 merge. Not in Oceanside or Carlsbad or Encinitas or Del Mar. Not until just before Miramar Road, and then not as much as usual.
Where was everybody?
