View Full Version : novice mistake results in crash...
Went riding with Kerry today down the silver strand and i looked down for a second let the bike wander and it dropped off the path and i didn't correct right and it went out and I went down.
Bike faired ok, just scratched up a bit. Me on the other hand am scratched up a lot. was half way through the ride. Still finished it at ~15.5 avg rest of the way back but my left wrist/arm/shoulder is super sore/stiff.
There's rash on my left ankle, both palms (not too bad), left knee, left elbow, left hip, left shoulder.
Dropped the bike off to get tuned (freebie) while I heal up. Not what I had in mind at all.
Helmet is done. Cracked the foam in several places but it did its job. We ended up finishing our ride.
Bike's at the shop being tuned and I'm healing up during that time.
Time to buy a new helmet

This happened .5 mile after I laid mine over whille looking over my shoulder. I faired a lot better tho. Some scratches on my shifters.
Paul handled his first crash pretty well I must say. Toughed it out on the last 7 miles and got cleaned up at the FJ.

I dont think it is safe to ride with you 2 rookies:p:p
At least that was not your head that cracked like your helmet!

Rookie eh? lol Had I been on a cross bike I wouldn't have laid mine over. I just got into the dirt washed out the front wheels and sucked up some tumble weed in my rear cassette.
BTW, sorry for not calling you to ride with us today Will.

Don't buy a new helmet just yet.
It looks like a helmet by Giro and if I remember correctly if you send it in to them to inspect it, free of charge on all their single impact helmets, and they find the helmet to be unsafe to use again(obviously), they will sell you one at cost.
Sorry to hear about the mishap, but luckily you're ok.
not at cost unfortunately 30% off MSRP... which is higher than online or LBS pricing... if the LBS participates in the warranty program it's 30% off store price which is much bette.r

*edit, looks like you already knew... but on a side note it was a replacement at cost a couple years ago.

Good thing you were wearing a helmet.
Chicks dig scars. Head trauma... not quite as attractive.
Thanks guys... The wounds loook ugly but they aren't so bad. Just a sore shoulder/arm/wrist. Can't move it too much but it doesn't hurt otherwise so I'll be fine in a week or so.
Bike is at Performance getting a tune up and I am getting a few days to rest/heal. The ride was fun though, 18 miles across the strand although I should never have crashed how I did.

I still think you should E-mail Giro and tell them what happened and how long you've had the Helmet...

Oddly enough, I sat on the couch all day and have no scratches, no sore wrists, and did not break my helmet.
thanks Tom, you're a great friend.

Actually, I did step on a bottle cap. Not cuts, but it's a little tender. ;)
Put some ice on that and next time, pay attention.

Emailing them, or talking to a rep wont do anything.
When a SINGLE IMPACT helmet cracks during an accident, it DID WHAT YOU PAID IT TO DO. :p
I went through 3 helmets one snowboard season :( But its a price to pay to be safe ;)

i was a snowboard instructor for 5yrs... knew a few reps and got some good things from them at great prices
i'm not saying youre going to get a freebie, that very rarely happens unless your pro. but talking and getting info doesnt hurt...you may find out that that series was recalled for some odd reason and get lucky.

yeah 200$ is alot , but they SAVE UR LIFE right??? so basically I think 200$ is cheap to keep your life let alone your head in 1 piece

Case in point, you knew the reps. I'm close friends with quite a few ski/snowboard reps, I've worked the industry for quite a while, so I know the perks. But I do guess you're right about the recall issue you brought up. :D

Hey... I have that same bike helmet. Of course, I lent/essentially gave my bike to my brother since he's the college kid in Westwood... but I have plans to get a new folding bike soon.
