Motor Trend, November 2004
Every November, Las Vegas transforms into Horsepower City as the automotive aftermarket descends on convention centers off The Strip for a massive event. Over 100,000 auto industry members from more than 100 countries will roam two million square feet of exhibits. The scale is overwhelming, and the economic impact is staggering.
For car enthusiasts, it doesn’t get much better than touring the 11 miles of aisles, seeing the very latest performance and appearance components showcased on high-dollar project cars. For the insiders, factory reps, aftermarket deities, wholesale buyers, and auto scribes that tour the Las Vegas Convention Center, SEMA is equal part annual homecoming and critical business meeting. Walking the aisles, it is common to see champion racers, legendary wrenchers, and corporate mucky mucks amid a sea of chrome and sheetmetal.
Motor Trend, and indeed all of Primedia Automotive, descended upon SEMA in a feeding frenzy, with great vehicle discoveries and stories to be found around each corner. Just a list of 1100 all-new parts shown there would fill a book; imagine all the tantalizing component combinations on display! Just the General Motors exhibit alone features 40 vehicles....
