Just Released: BMW 1 Series Coupe
Arriving stateside in early 2008.
by Jim Hall, Road and Track

With its tall, arcing greenhouse, the new BMW 1 Series hints at a modern version of the company's famed 2002 coupe from decades past. But that's where the similarities end. While the car of old was a rather slab-sided affair, the new 1 Series is a dramatic mix of contours and curves. Its shorter overall length (to the 3 Series) heightening the visual impact of the deep creases down its sides and the swooping shape of its thick rocker panels.
Available as either a 128i or the more powerful, better-equipped 135i, the new rear-drive 1 Series makes use of the same engines that power the current 3 Series cars - a 230-bhp, 3.0-liter inline-6 and a twin-turbocharged 300-bhp, 3.0-liter inline-6. The company claims the latter powerplant is good for 0-60 mph runs in less than 5.3 seconds. Options for the 1 Series include a navigation system with iDrive interface, leather trim and adaptive xenon headlights (standard on the 135i).
The 1 Series, like other BMW models, will include free maintenance for the first four years or 50,000 miles.
Pricing had yet to be announced as of this writing.

i'd have to see them in person, with looking for a new car i've considered these but i need something that is big enough for my kid in the back... i dunno it's an option at least

I am seriously tempted by the 135i. Reminds me of a modern day 2002. Should be a very fast car as well with that engine in there.

i saw one on the road last week and i was totally FREAKING out because it's a beautiful car!! and i didn't have a camera on me... it was all de-badged and plain looking but clearly the 1-series

i tailed the car for like 5 miles on the 210W last wednesday. it had minor camo panel covers and all sorts of extra sensors and dials on the dash area [not conspicuous at all]

this was a test vehicle fo sho... dammit need a digital camera [mebe its time i get the HelloKitty digital camera]

Saw it up at the LA Auto Show...it's definitely a gorgeous car :hitit: If BMW doesn't ruin it by overpricing it, it's on my list for a next car too ;)
