well where the drip is i dont think it can be the water pump because its too far away from it and its on the same level as the pump, could it be the tranny seal going back what color is tranny fluid?

Check the Flange that meets the coolant to the engine block. usually the seal breaks. its like a $10 part. Pink is coolant.

where is this flange at what side of the motor? i looked at the hose that connects to the right hand side of the motor and its not leaking. none of the hoses seem to be leaking from what i can see... man i need help on this one

dude, why're you stressin... it's not a big deal. look on top of your tranny... is there pink/white crusty stuff? look a lil higher at the head flange connected to the head. has the coolant temp sensor on it... is it crusty/leaking? there's your problem. Is it on the other side of the engine from say the oil pan area? check the waterpump. liquid or white crust comin down the side of the engine (remove timing cover if need be) then there's the leak.

im stressed because of dubfest coming up.. but i found the problem it was the coolant flange it was leaking on the underside of the flange.. no i changed it out.. it leaked just alittle bit it seemed until the gasket warmed up and set. now my question is
1. is it normal for it to leak about another quarter size puddle then stop? was that infact the gasket setting?

I'm not an expert, but i would think if you put a new gasket on, it shouldn't leak.

vw power steering is either brown or green. so did you change it or not scott? i can't tell by what you said. it doesn't just stop leaking by itself. The head flange and/or gasket need to be replaced. If you replaced it and you still see a puddle, did you think it might just be left over? did you wash down the area with a hose or anything? or maybe you got it crooked somehow and it's still leaking.

no i didnt change the power steering all i changed was the flange it leaking the color of the coolant. i havent washed it down yet i will do that right now
just rinsed out the engine bay well see how it looks later

It should not be leaking any coolant at all after replacing. vw power sterring fluid is green/blue Mel.

thats funny... mines pink... and i never added more untill it started leaking years and years after i owned it. no wonder why it was hard for me to find pink stuff.. haha
Did you replace the gasket with a new one?
and did you make sure both surfaces were clean of any old gasket material?
Also did you spill alot of coolant when you replaced the gasket?
If so you might want to rinse with water around where you were working?

i didn't ask if you changed the power steering fluid. i was just telling mel that vw's is not pink.

did you change the securing clip and gasket to the CTS? that tends to leak if you don't replace it when you do the headflange.
scottd1975

i didnt replace the clip that holds the connector on but its secure does not move at all. i washed around the whole engine bay (after the fact) both surfaces were clean of all old material and the new flange came with the gasket installed already. well see what it looks like today

i don't mean the clip that holds the connector. what i'm talking about is the rubber seal that goes around the cts and the clip that holds the cts in place, not the connector. you can get away without replacing the clip, but the seal should be replaced.

it might be your coolant... my coolant STOP NOW light kept going on and i didnt know wat it was but when i jacked the car up i found out taht it was the one of the coolant hoses that connects to the secondary radiator on the pass side. it was like a 8$ rubber hose and took 15min to swap out
