My fresh engine is a giant cluster fuck and I'm one step away from parting everything out. I have low compression across all cylinders and would like to know if it's the head or the bottom end. Anyone have a leak down tester that I can use (not that I know how to use one—yet) or that can come by my place in Oceanside? Car isn't running well (or at all...I haven't tried to start it in almost three months). I'm willing to pay straight ca$h for assistance. Thanks a lot.

how low is low? It may be timing related if its across the board. I have a TDC whistle and a Snapon leak down tester in SOuth O.C.

Around 90psi across the board, from what I remember. Very well could be timing, but there's no cels indicating that. I'm deciding if I want to get un-lazy and go get the battery charged tonight to see if it'll start. If it'll make the drive, I'll be into heading up there.

Haha, John, where you been? I still have all your stuff; I tried to call you months ago but never heard back.

If you have the exhaust cam out of time with the front, it may not set a fault right away if at all. I haven't messed with a 1.8T in ages and forget where the sensor is, but being the the exhaust cam is chain driven from the intake, the front cam could be spot on, but the exhaust cam a tooth off. I have seen T-Belts done a tooth off on 1.8T's and they run like isht. I would check that first. Got a VAG?

Vag didn't throw any codes. It's been a long time, but I was fairly certain that the cams were 16 links apart, as per bentley's specs. I have photos somewhere.
