As sone of you know, after i get my Autotech Cup kit:tup:, im planning on doing custom GHL TB with a HKS Hi-Power muffler (Yup gotta be different). So the question arose...

Should i...

get a GHL 3" Turbo-back and slice off the muffler ? ($1200 TB+ 280 HKS + install)

Or...

Buy the DP, and get the mesurements for the Cat and get a set custom bent ?($420 DP + ? pipes + 280 HKS)

..and before anyone asks..

No! It will not sound like a lawn mower...ive heard a clip of the same thing done on a 20AE and it sounded BEAUTIFUL:hitit:.

So what info or advice can you guys / gals give me.:tup2:

I would buy a nice Downpipe, then have the exhaust fabricated with your HKS muffler and save some money

ok, thas what i thought thanks Mike....

So should i get the mesurements from GHL? or just have it custom fab'd... cause i thnk the GTI used GHL pipes

A good DP and custom catback w/ your muffler choice is a good idea.

But $400+ for a DP is ridiculous.

My DP + installation only ran me $200, and i got a good deal on a cbe for $260.

Id do some more shopping for your downpipe. But other than that, everything else sounds good.

well thas just a worst of the worst estimate...

cause GHL directly sells it for $465

Setuning sells GHL 3"DP it for $400

and ebay is about the same for a GHL.

I know i can Get a generic DP off of Ebay for $150 but i dont wanna cheap out on this.

and ive heard alot of ppl sugust eurojet, 42DD, and Apr, but they all run within the $350 and $460 range

As for the Cat end of my system. Im planning to get some pipes bent at Jerald's on the mile of cars. and im gonna pick up the HKS from ethier Options auto, or ShowStoppers USA since my cousin has connections there

Anyway, thanks for the help guys... anythng more you can can suggust would be gravy:tup:.

IMO you don't need a 3" exhaust on a stock turbo car. A 2.5" DP and exhaust would be cheaper. I have a GHL TB on my car and got it cheaper than GHLs website from MJM Autohaus.

wicked tuning 3in turboback or maxpsi 3 inch turboback, both are 500 dollars. Sell your muffler, especially if its a fart can and pay for the shipping with it.

im running a 2.5in custom exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and custom TP

altogether probably cost me no more than $500 or so

pipe is pipe

so take that into consideration

I agree 2.5 is perfect for a stock turbo. GIAC even recommends a 2.5 for the ko4-020. 3" will likely cause more lag and potentially cause overboost throwing you into limp. just what I've learned from research not from experience. I run 2.5 all the way back and it's great.

"your forced induction, theres plenty of wrties up on it, dont worry"

so i went with it....But most of the guys on Vortex dont live in Cali, so ill take your guys word for it...:tup:

I rember someone said..

2.5= stock/chipped ko3 or Ko4
3.0= Big turbo

I can still get the system in 2.5 ^_^, ill check out the prices you guys posted

Thanks for the advice guys....but im still FAR from doing this, i just wanna get my blue prints wrote up.:tup2:

one wrong turn of the wrench, yeah right................. It comes from the factory in the "ON" position, its a fluke and something is wrong if its off, like the bulb is burnt out.

thats not a real titanium tiped muffler - its either cheap aluminum or coated stainless to make it look that way ....check out burns stainless, or thermal research for the dp, and then have a quality exhaust shop do the rest - I would ditch the HKS unit - if you really want that style of muffler look at the Magnaflow straight through seires single chamber round muffler - assuming you have the clearence and are making the HP to flow on a 3" DP back system (i.e. 400+ whp) - 2.5" from the DP back might be a better way to go since this sounds like a street application .....the 3" DP alone is going to give you some turbo lag to up around 2500-3000 RPM depending on the turbo and the housing
