Bummer.

too bad it's not a 1.8T...I'd be alllll up in ur engine bayz...steelin ur motar.

As far as totaling goes... when my 190E was totalled, Farmers said if the estimate to fix the car is anywhere close to, or greater than, the insured value of the car (this means NOT including mods, unless you told your insurance company about all the extra cash you've dumped into it...which i'm willing to bet you were smart enough NOT to do) they'll write you a check and slang the car for spares/scrap...

I'm no mechanic...but it doesn't look good dude...which is good from the standpoint that you may be getting a new car, or at least a check out of it.

note to self: don't procrastinate on buying those new tires...because the ones you have are...how you say...BALD

i hoped a curb way back when only exterior damage was a ripped out head light and and 2" wide 3' long dent down my door that was in a 2 month old mazda 3 and it got totalled i would think this is the same anyway if u decide to de-mod i'll swap suspensions with u (if they r indeed swappable) and i'll even swap back when u get another car or maybe buy it from u if i take a liking to ur coilovers:tup:

Ted, I don't know if you decided or if the car is gone yet, but TAKE OFF ALL YOUR AFTERMARKET STUFF! If you have OEM stuff to put back in it's place then do it.

You know I just got done dealing with my Getta... They said it wasn't totalled unless it iexceeded 70% of value. ANd yes, anything is not described as on the car from the factory will not be replaced. So take off any mods you can and replace it with the OEM stuff. You should replace the OEM parts because they INS Co, will do a sort of estimate on what your car is worth when your INS co starts to tell you how much they will give you IF it is totalled. My getta was compacted from front to rear, pinned the doors shut and it wasn't totalled.

Yes, so stereo, lighting, suspension if salvageable, etc... get that stuff off before taking it to a the INS adjuster.

You can gimme a call if you'd like since I just went through all this recently.

That is a BS thing they all say to throw you off and use THEIR could be crap shop! Check out the shop you'd want to go to, because most shops warranty their work regardless of the Ins. Co.

When my Getta was messed up and had to go back, the additional couple GRAND in work that had to be done came out of the Shop's pocket, not the Ins. Co.

Get that thing down to Phil Thearles' FTW! It'll be declared totalled for sure! They said my Getta was totalled, but GEICO SUCKS ASS! Just my .02 ;)

i worked for Caliber Collision Centers for 3 years. work is LIFETIME WARRANTIED there. they have a shop on the corner of Indiana Ave and Arlington.

by law you CAN take it where ever the hell you want. trust me. i worked in that industry.

the 3 shops they recommended were:
-moreno valley autobody
-caliber collision center (lol jesse...)
-entripd autobody

i know the shop i want to take it too since its a VW specialty shop but the adjuster said it wont be easy since its only a mechanical shop and they dont do autobody but when i asked about taking it to an autobody to fix the outside would they have to send it to a mechanic and he said yea so i was like why dont i take it to my mechanic and you guys pick the autobody and he quickly changed the subject and started questioning my tires. and kept emphasizing on if the tires wer teh same ones on the car when i first purcahsed them

Hey watch yourself, don't let them screw you out of your claim because you were operating an "unsafe" vehicle! That might be what he is getting at. If anything, if you haven't admitted otherwise, make sure he knows that you did get different tires, and that you had replaced them since you owned the vehicle! I mean if they measure the tread, then, there is nothing to hide, but, make sure that if they claim your car was "unsafe" due to tread length, that you find the state code, or law that says you have to have so much tread. Get what I am sayin?

Wow Ted, you have had some bad luck lately, atleast your okay, from the pics, it doesn't look too bad, fender, bumper, and a rack, wheel, maybe subframe, but you never know untill you look at the frame rails and shock towers and body gaps. I would just let them take it to their place, that way if it isn't right, you can kick and scream and tell them to keep it.

It could have been alot worse though had someone on the freeway hit you.

If they do total it and you want another Dub, hit me up.

I'm with Carlos on the Jr. high text messaging stuff, if you need to talk to me, call me, and vise/versa! AHAHAHA

DTolo
10-28-2007, 06:20 PM
Ted, put it this way, if they total it, once they have it, you are not entitled to anything off the car without their consent and at a price. So, if you are cool with having to buy/replace the parts you leave in it, go ahead.

I removed ALL my components from engine bay to trunk, stereo, XM reciever, Ipod adapter/reciever, amp cables/wiring, and all that I could, to include putting the car on steelies so I didn't have to turn in my Axis 19s.

JETTAone420
10-28-2007, 06:24 PM
yea i know especially since when i was done spinning and was literally in the slow lane facing traffic and i saw the ladies reaction as she swerved out of teh way... as far as body gaps go their are gaps inbetween the door panels and the frame but not alot but enough to be like thats not normal....im praying to god tehy total it.
i think my adventures with this car should end here. especially considering ive been putting more money "into" the car with various upgrades/ repairs etc. than i have actually paying the thing off, but i do want another dub, id prefer an audi but thats not gonna happen..
and jeez stop calling me out on sending texts!! hahaha

JETTAone420
10-28-2007, 06:29 PM
well if they do total it dont i have any time frame before i actually sign papers taht would give me time to remove last minute stuff?? like the aluminum trim handles are hella noticable when i took them off so i left them back on...i want my optima battery lol....the tail lights i can prob part out since if i do get another car i dont want a jetta, and the coils...well i dont have any stock suspension. the adjuster said hes gonna call 2marrow to set evertying up which might give me an extra day to swap stuff out

DTolo
10-28-2007, 07:02 PM
talk to the body shop and ask them what their policy is for retrieving parts when a car is found to be totalled. Guess that will answer some questions.

I know at Phil Thearles, once it is in their posession, if they decide it is totalled, you have to buy parts off the car, you can't strip it before signing the agreement that it is totalled.

JETTAone420
10-28-2007, 07:05 PM

i personally know the owner from Intrepid (they're off of washington by the 215).
David Sanchez is his name, or talk with Javier Lopez (service adviser). i did graphics work for them and i used to work with them in the industry :p or take it to Caliber. i don't really know about that mo val shop.

and when you do take your car to either shop, make sure you or your service adviser follows up with you frequently throughout the week. don't let the ball drop or your car will be in the shop longer than it has to.

update: k so my car is going to german performance (euro specialty shop) for the repairs and caliber collision for the body work. their gonna pick up the car in about an hour.
according the the adjuster its gonna go
-body work first
-then the suspension alignment
-then the actual mechanical stuff

jwill'sMK4
10-29-2007, 11:36 AM
so soes that mean we cant swap suspensions?

mike
10-29-2007, 11:37 AM
Well, they may total it once the body shop gets it and gives the insurance a full assessment. When my truck got totaled, they offered me money for my system, or I could pull it out and put it back stock, which I did. I had receipts for it, that helped.

bugzy
10-29-2007, 12:17 PM
never take it to the insurance's shop ... thats lame

take it where you trust the shop, not the insurance company

the insurance company is suppose to cover any expenses needed to restore the vehicle to its original condition, without mod's of course, but should cover the value of the OEM parts

i dont know which shop is good up in your area, but I always recommend Phil Thearles Autoworks in San Diego for us down here

JETTAone420
10-29-2007, 12:19 PM

JETTAone420
10-29-2007, 12:21 PM
yea thats why i took it to german performance instead of some second rate mechanical shop..........they just picked it up and even the lady said its a good chance they'll total.

always best to total out a car thats possibly has some frame damage

PhätTony
10-29-2007, 12:51 PM
You'd better get all that stuff off before it goes to the pound son! They took mine, when I went to see the car...the intake was gone from it. They told me they had no idea who took it. Take that ish off...dont trust the place they take it to. They will part your shit themselves in a second to get extra kickback.

car is slated for a nvember 13 completion (estimate only) of course the car hasnt seen the mechanic yet for a complete evaluation this is just what the bodyshop said for the exterior since they have to order new panels and stuff
so the total is still up in the air. but im curious since this part is taking so long couldnt they just take it to the mechanic now? it would be a shame to wait this long till a mechanic sees it

my insurance only pays for a 30 day rental car after that it comes out of my own pocket s does anyone have a car i can borrow just in case?

ok so the lady just came by to get the final adjustment on it...that 2 timming lier!!hhahah
first she was all yea its a cf hood blah blah their gonna have to replace it anyways u can go ahead and keep it and your rear bumper since it has a stock bumper with a lip molded if u can get us another stock bumper it wont be held against you...then this morning she was like wheres the hood and i told her that she said i could take it off then we got in a debate about it and she was like blah blah their has to be sheet metal intact etc... and i was like u just said u were gonna have to replace the hood anyways. so she was like wee gonna have to reevaluate the price since we need to factor in a complete hood missing. then the rear bumper because the paint wasnt in good condition like the other and iw as like its the stock bumper you cuz would have to cut up the bottom lip and repaint it annyawys and she was like nooo thats another deduction. then when i was removing the speaker wires from teh side door sill i left one of the clips open so the plastic was sticking up and she was like oops thats gonna affect the trim level and i was like what i can pop that in right now so i did and she was like i already took the picture!!!...anyways tho she said i should still be getting at least 4k out of it
