View Full Version : Good Place To Buy Rotors/Pads?
It is time to do the brakes on my MKIII GLX. Any recommendations as to where I can pick up a set of (4) rotors and pads? Slotted or x-drilled would be nice, but not necessary. So far, I've checked out www.parts4vws.com (http://www.parts4vws.com). Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
B.
P4VW or Pure Motorsports (my preference)

Thanks guys. I was probably going to do the install myself @ our R&D facility's shop, but if I can get a good deal on install, why not.

either way, got lots of options for parts
EBC, Mintex, Ferado .... so id talk to one of the shops so they can recommend you the right pad/rotors
depends on what you want out of your brakes

I just did Powerslot rotors with Hawk Pads on our MK4 and love them. I got them from Potterman at parts4vws. I have always had great service from Potter, he would definitely be my first recomendation.

Anyone use Akebono pads on their VW's??? I talked to a rep about them and they sounded like good pads, but of course this is coming from a product rep!!!

I have Mintex, they took some time (1000k) to get broken in before the squeaking stopped, all in all they're pretty good.

Supposidly they are OEM on alot of cars... And starting to become OEM on more euro cars...
Akebono's OEM customers include: General Motors, Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi Motors, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru and Isuzu.

Speaking of Rotors, does anyone know of a company that imports Black Diamond rotors? Or have an opinion of them? I really wanna get them for my MKV when I have some spare $$ I know Venom Motorsports (UK based) has them but they don't have an email... you have to call their office in the UK...

yea well it's a coating so the surface getting contact with the pads will wear to the regular color

yea, i'm almost certain the black diamond rotors don't fade... but i can't confirm because they only sell them in europe and i don't know their official website... and like i said venom ms doesn't have an email... ugh...
Order my setup from P4VW's. It was a pleasure talking to Mike over the phone.
Now, all I need is a half decent low profile jack and pair of jack stands. I wonder if Sears will have any Black Friday deals?

What do you mean by "fade" exactly? Fade as in color, or fade as in the technical term for the loss of effectiveness of brakes due to heat buildup
for the color to not fade, they would have to be black the whole way through...the pigment would have to be impregnated into the metal alloy...which would be expensive and pointless...unless black rotors somehow make you stop faster.
Europe has more than its fair share of gimmick based car products just like our LED washer nozzles and walmart spinner hubcaps.
besides, the rotor is behind your wheel, no matter how much it sucks to admit...people probably aren't going to be passing your car in a parking lot and say to themselves "Wow...those brake rotors are BLACK!!!" Instead, you're going to be pointing out to everyone that your rotors are black...and they'll be left as confused as I am about why you would want these on your car over a higher quality product

Thanks for your input, however, I don't really care if nobody else "can see it". I like it, its my car and I know its there. If they fade in color, then they fade in color so be it, but thats what I'm trying to figure out and that is what I was asking. If they do fade, then I'll save myself the trouble, if they don't then I wanna get a quote. And unless you used these yourself how can you call these a less quality product? Thanks again for your input :)
