someone owed you money and wouldn't pay you back? i'm not going to say any names but JETTAone420 aka TED aka Birdman, basically borrowed 200 dollars from me in feb 07 and now its december and he made two payments, first one 30 dollars and second 20, which was in may thru july time frame. Now its coming up on a year and he says he's always broke and yet i hear that he goes to gtg's, etc. before he crashed his car which costs $$$ and now since he cashed his car and i know he has the money to pay me back he won't respond to any form of communication. So What would you do to get your money back from said scoundrel?

Thats not cool... I can help you get your money back... I know where he lives... or yea go to a GTG and demand it there... or just tell his mom... I really hate when people do that (not pay back $)...
ouch, or ousting on a public forum works too........ Well, after seeing this, he will either say fuck you, and you will never get your money, learning a valuable lesson to NEVER lend money to friends. Or being shoved into the spot light, he will man up and pay you and apologize to you.

Damn that Dirty Laundry! Don't air that crap out, I don't care to smell it! LOL...
Well, guess you'll see what happens.
yeah airing out dirty laundry in public is generally a no-no, it wouldn't have been my approach, at least not at the $200 level. $200 is worthy of an ass whipping, over a G is usually a finger, maybe the pinky, over 10 would be a knee cap, maybe some facial scarring.

OK Let's get to the point of this thread. First off i almost never give others money, for this reason. I helped ted cause he seemed eager to better himself and i thought i would help him out. Besides going some where and confronting him like i have wanted to i figured i would get some input as well as let others know about whats going on so no one else will make the mistake i did and help ted out. I personally felt him being in the army would have meant instilled integrity, honesty, pride etc, like some of my other friends but i see that was not the case. So i came to socal, since its more of a family atmosphere, to get everyone's responses including some people that know him. obviously he isn't going to respond and that just shows the quality of his character. constant broken lies and promises and I don't feel its wrong at all for others to know about one of their own who has over 5000 posts. Have to know the quality of a person to respect them. That's my .02 and i am still learning and growing and felt this was a better method then court, going to his house, or a gtg and creating problems. In the end i still am looking for him to be a MAN and take of his responsibilities.
I mean, you could have asked for our advise on the subject first without naming him, then proceeded with that later if he didn't get the gist of the post or by asking everyones opinions if it seems correct to do so.
I hate to play devils advocate but, Ted seems to have had it rough lately, loaning someone money has its inherent risks, especially with someone down on their luck. I wouldn't want to kick someone while they are down, if I ever gave money to a friend in his position, I would consider it giving a gift and if I got it back, great. We have all for the most part been through tough times, thats what friends are for.

i named him because this has been an on going thing and people should know what they are getting themselves into. i gave him the money with the knowledge of him paying be back within 30 days. I didn't really know him at the time. I helped drive him around and dropped another 200 bucks in gas there but i don't care about that. i loaned him the money with a verbal agreement of being paid back. I know he has hard times but if you were in hard times you wouldn't be hitting up gtg's and so forth. not my place to tell someone how to live their life but if someone owes you money you take notice when they are spending money to get to a get2gether instead of 5 bucks a week to pay you back. Thats my opinion.

yeah, what mike said.
when you loan money, give it with the intention that the person will pay you back when they are able.
i have a friend who is always in need of $ so i try to slip $20 to "them" secretly. not all the time.. just once in a while.. it's good karma
honestly, have patience.. things have a funny way of working themselves out
but it was bad juju to name names...

i didnt know ted or much about his situation at the time and i was not his friend at the time. so 30 days turned into almost a year and no thats not what you do. That is wrong to make promises over and over and break them. Its ok to name him. IF you can take money from someone and not pay them back then you wouldn't mind others knowing about it.... i mean would you think if you saw ted on judge judy or some show and hearing about all this???? no privacy when it comes to debt.
I would think, if you were down on your luck, you may want to hang out with your friends, I know I would. Granted he should be making some sort of token payment, I would be more pissed if he was baller status and still didn't pay me. But you yourself said you barely knew him when you gave him the money, that sounds like a poor decision on your part. Is their any work you need done around the house? tree trimming, gutter cleaning, house cleaning? Maybe he can work it off, cash is cash but just a suggestion.

well shoot, why'd you cough up the money if you weren't his friend at the time...?
consider it a donation... unless the debtor wants to speak up for himself.

well it was never accepted on my part as a gift and i have continously followed up on a debt. I am a caring person and so it seems he was guy who wanted to work hard and do something in life, but after i gave him the funds i got to know him and saw what reality was. He has never offered to use his time to pay off his debt. He has even gotten free parts and i told him i would accept them as payment and he said oops i forgot. i even told him he could give me a part off of his car as payment. I have no tolerence or respect for someone that has the means to pay me back but chooses not to and that is why i have no problem naming him. He has money now, he is selling parts off his car, he works and yet instead of getting a cheap car he is looking for co signer to be cool and get something tight.... he's choices. You can get a cheap honda for 3000 or less that is really reliable until you save for something better. or even an old 60's bug. That is why he can pay his debt, even with a part off his car and yet he has not ... .that is why this thread was created to get rationale opinions on what course of action i should take for a fellow socaleuro member ..... o yeah and i gave him a brand new $50 dollar headset that he lost ... so their has been more than enough donation to poor broke ted, but he promised to bay me back and i am expecting to get the rest of the money that i loaned him back.

am i wrong for thinking that if he works and does nothing else, has not been in school cause he is so broke, that he can't collect cans and cash them in? deliver papers in the morning? get a part time job as a security guard at night? get a job at mcdonalds for extra cash? he has personally kept himself broke by working a part time job and spending his time posting online and hanging at gtg's, with a gf, or whatever. i have no pity for someone who won't go out and work hard to take care of their responsibilities. ZERO. People die to come to this country to earn a buck. their is no excuse for an able bodied person to be broke when you are working 20-30 hours a week and not in school, no wife, no kids, no rent. That's my .02 cents and i guess i am the way i am having grown up on food stamps, willing to collect cans or do what i need to do to pay my bills. Work 3 jobs and go to school full time, do what i need to do to survive. So the fact that he is broke is a choice, bottom line money is owed and he has had the option to pay or give me a part of value and yet nothing .... so i definitely wanted to get some other options before it turns into 08...

If I lend money, I assume I will never see it again. Best way to lend. I once loaned $300+ to a buddy, I never saw it again. The circumstances were much different, but it was a loan none the less. But I was willing to accept that before I gave it to him. Of course hinde <--sp? sight is 20/20. Guess you have learned for future pref.

wow...how did i miss this thread?
anyways to clarify things yea i guess you could say i owe jeremy money on a job oppurtunity that he introduced me to (world financial group) in that in order to be a member you have to pay to join(then pay again to get liscened), which at the time i didnt have the money to do. but jeremy offered to pay for my entrance fee and that when i was able to make money to go ahead and pay him back. now i did try my hand at the job thing and it really didnt work out with reguards the time put into it and getting nothing back out but thats a diffrent story so im not gonna get into details. as for "having money now" psssh i wish i did... so im pretty sure EVERYONE at the ontario meets can vouce for me how many times ive been to the meets in the last 3-4 months cuz like ive told him i dont go anymore and when i do its asking huitzi or justin for rides. althou i did practically put a FS list on everything i have, i have yet to sell anything worthwhile. and the money i did get from the car accident i put that on credit cards that i owed on and gave my mom some money. and yea ive found lots of bootlegged cars that i could drive but where am i going to get the money from still?? and for teh whole avoiding him deal i dont know how im avoiding him...hes got my number, he's been to my house before. its not like im going into hiding or something.

First of all It doesn't matter what you were loaned the money for. I loaned you and my friend leroy and thus a witness was present. Leroy said he was going to pay me back by the end of the week and he did. You said you were going to pay me back as well and nothing. You made the choice to borrow money and that was your decision. you have been avoiding my pm's, and im's. I do know where you live and i don't think things ever go smooth when you show up at someone's house and ask for money. You don't answer calls or return messages, so don't try to save face with that. u haven't been going the last 3to4 months? who cares, its been since February. Now if you are selling parts why not give em a part of equal value to pay off the debt? Why not get a job down the street by ucr and work close to home and ride your bike? basically all your excuses hold no value and when you borrow money from someone, you asked to borrow since you didn't have it and saw i was loaning my friend i made the decision to trust and believe that you were a man of your word, you need to pay back the person. I even had a guy who was giving to give you a job a the riverside auto center and you didn't even call him back ... it goes beyond all reason the extent of the assistance i have given, offered you and so i am not going to let the loan go, you have had enough hand outs from me, so if you have parts you haven't sold when should i come pick one up?

hmm I can't really sympathize with u on this one being that u loaned money to someone who by ur explanation was practically a stranger that's like handing ur money to someone on the side of the freeway now I kno u don't expect to get that money back now from wut u say u seem like someone who shouldn't be worried about a measly 200 bux since ur used to doing wut need be to survive da problem is u assume he's jus ignoring u and breaking promises but coming from knowing ted I can tell u he is a very respectable person he jus happens to be a very forgetful person as well and as far as verbal agreements go if u were serious about getting ur money back u would have taken some sort of collateral if u ask me the fact that u posted this this pitiful smear attempt shows wut kind of character u have and if it were me u would never get ur money back

I just go to their house and ask nicely.
When they offer up alternative payment methods I accept it and expect payment.
When they fail to pay me my money, I go visit them again and either get paid, or someone gets laid out. I always get my money or cause twice the cost in damage of their car.
Thats me tho. Ive seen people die over a quarter so my method is tame.
Ted, if you ask me, anytime you have to pay someone to make money, major red flag, they never work out, Your $200 went to someones Bentley payment. If it was that easy, we would all have Bentleys and not Monte Carlo Bentley's, Real ones.

coming from knowing ted I can tell u he is a very respectable person
well this thread is basically pointless to everyone else. ted stated he has not sold his parts yet so his list is: [[FS]] MASTER LIST !! from dubmang
--eurogear cf hood badgless w/ aerocatch flush mounted pins (550$)
--depo eurospec smoked projectors w/ laminx and mcculloch hid's plug&play for a gti (500$)
--dubtechnik sideskirts painted black (100$)
--molded emphase rear bumper for jetta painted black (300$)
--vr6 big bore CAI w/ k&n filter (100$)
--oem aluminum aluminum interior: handles, pedals, radio surroundings (275$)
--koni adj coilovers (700$)
--2.5" eurosport catback for a 1.8t/vr6 (250$)
--(2) 6.5" lcd screens in leather headrests all wires included (175$)
--hella smoked tails for jetta (150$)
--smoked turn signals (10$)
--rear R32 seats (75$)
--rear sunshade for jetta (30$)
--dubtechnik rxs bumper its cracked under the right grill can easily be fixed since nothings missing (50$)
ill get pics up...
c'mon guys!! lets help ted get an R32!!!
so If ted is respectable i see he has a part for the exact amount he owes me, So ted are you willing to give me the part and pay off your debt? And i started working out with ted at the gym so he seemed like an agreeable person and that is why i decided to loan him the money thinking he was dependable... I guess now i have given him the opportunity to let his true colors shine through. So can we end this?
