Debating between the two...The sidekick has a lot of features and functions...but lacks Bluetooth. The RAZR has bluetooth and looks way cool but doesn't have the functionability of the sidekick.. What do you guys think?

i've been told it's just a glorified v600 with a aluminum case...accurate?

pretty much. it has the same features as the v600, just a different package. however, since i have the v600, its a pretty sweet phone. has pretty much all the functionality you could want in a phone unless you are wanting to 2-way.

I wouldn't exactly call the razr "worthless." It's essentially a v600, but much thinner and with a color external screen. It's a bit expensive right now since it is brand new, flashy, and a lot of hype surrounding it. But far from "worthless".

You have to look at how you'll be using it. The Razr is a phone whereas the Sidekick is an all-around communication device. If you find yourself to be texting a lot, using AIM, needing a bigger screen for web surfing, and overall needing a QWERTY keyboard without caring about a normal phone form factor, go with the Sidekick.

Otherwise if the keyboard is of no significance and you'll be using it more as a phone than any other communication, the Razr will be better for you. I have a Moto v710 on Verizon, and it's a great phone. It's basically the same as the Razr, except nowhere near as small, and I find it does everything I would need it to do. I love the Bluetooth in the phone because I have the ability to get online wirelessly from anywhere using my laptop or iPAQ.

Oh and also, Cingular has a 100-day exclusive deal with Motorola for the Razr, so you can only get the Razr through Cingular and the Sidekick is strictly T-Mobile.

i dont know .. the RAZR for what it is is worthless ;)

its just a normal phone ... the thing is slim, but its wide and tall ...

overall, thing its neat ... but for the $$ its worthless ;)

Outside of the full keyboard, what can the Sidekick do that the Razr can't do or be made to do with Java apps?

Heh, okay. I'll give you that one.

Practically all my friends work in the cell phone industry: T-Mobile, Cingular, VZW, you name it, I've got a friend working there. I've always been into cell phones and have been following the industry quite closely for the last year or so.

Strictly talking about features and not flashiness, is the Razr worth its $500 price tag? Absolutely not. Is it a groundbreaking phone that is generating a lot of buzz and interest? Absolutely.

Sure Motorola embellished a bit and made the phone flashier than they probably had to. Titanium casing? Laser-cut keypad? Sure it's extravagent, but Motorola wanted to make sure the public knows that this phone is a big deal.

IMO, the Razr is going to become the new Nokia 8890; a phone that not a large number of people will buy because of the price, but one most people will know about. The Razr is living proof that you can have a feature-rich phone in a wafer-thin package, and it is going to set the standard of how people will judge phones in the future.

Now if that thing was a PDA phone, i think id like it.

Definitely agree that the technology (general) is there. But i dont see it functionally being significant.

Hell what do i know, i still dont mind having a medium sized phone, damn nextels.

Still waiting for the i930 Motorola to come out. Its not really new technology in regards to phones, but id really like some PDA functionality into my phone lately.

Yes, most people dont need PDA's, but personally, id like some light PDA functionality

in particular, id be happy if i could sync my Outlook calendar onto my phone ;) maybe sync my contact list or email (not important) ... but all functionality id find useful for me

I dont need functions to play games or whatevers, just wanna bring my calendar and maybe my contacts from Outlook. That is all ;)

Mp3 player would be nice as well

I don't think Motorola is a good phone manufacturer. The RAZR is highly over-rated. If you want a RAZR, wait a couple months 'cause I have a feeling Motorola has a few bugs to work out with it. The Sidekick 2 is a pimpin' phone; But it's a trendy phone also. Unless you switch phones like every few months like myself, I don't think you should get the RAZR or the Sidekick 2. I'd say go for the Samsung E630, P735, or D500. All good phones.

But that's just my opinion.

Here's the phone im waiting for

Its nothign ground breaking, but it'll be top notch for a Nextel phone which is like a year behind in implementing new stuff

I like the RAZR but not the $500.00 price tag. I will just stick with my V600 till the price goes down.

I have a nokia 3650, and although it looks like a brick (mind you, it's as tough as a brick too) it has everything I want it to do. I'm just looking for something new because i'm bored with it, but definitely don't want to downgrade to anything less.

hey br14n22. check out PCS Connection in Kearny Mesa or Smart Wireless in MiraMesa. those 2 shops can usually get any phone. I think PCS Connection can get you the D500 if you really want it.
