Ok this is kind of a mini-rant.....
WHY oh WHY is it so damn hard to go to a HUGE bookstore and find magazines for Audi/VW???
I mean a buddy of mine drives a mustang and he gets like 15 magazines dedicated to his car!!!! Of course he rubs it in because he knows what I'm looking for....
I rarely see European Car, its a good mag but a little thin on VW content.
Eurotuner is cool, probably better, IMO than European Car(feel free to chime in)
Performance VW is good but UK based(I got no complaints from this mag)
One more thing that pisses me off is all these "Import" magazines that think imports ONLY come from Japan!!!! C'mon people!! :)
/end rant
Ok...
So what magazines to you guys/gals read or recommend for VW/Audi content?

the only euro magazine that I read is eurotuner, though I have checked out PVW and European Car
I also read Sport Compact Car, they always have tons of good information and they're all about euro and imports
theres the golf, vw scene.....but those are pretty hard to find as well
eurotuner.
my issue is the price on the european mags, i know it costs to ship them over and whatever charges are related to that, but $10 for a magazine that isnt as thick as a photography mag for half the price

Are those magazines?
UK mags are the best made!! I bought them for Music, graphic design, mountain biking, cars, and computers and they are among the best there are!!! I have a friend thats an editor for a few magazines here in the US and he even admits they make the best magazines.....

Kinda like in Japan. Everytime I'm there... I have to load up on mags. They just look and are made soooooooo good!! Usually come with region free dvd's. I have a couple Japanese car mags with some nice euro content.
To answer the original question. I usually don't read car many mags ($$). Unless, I find myself at the book store, which then I'll most likely buy Performance VW, if I can find it.

I gave up already looking at the different book stores. I look online at all of the magazines to find information and good articles. Like you said, the price of the magazines is outrageous in the stores for the ones that you can find.

First, european car is available all over, Barnes and Noble and Borders almost always carry them. Lately it has been selling out at most of the local stands(YES!!!) because most stores are only ordering 10 or 12 issues, so get there early. There is a really good news stand at South Coast Plaza down by Claim jumper, they order lots of copies and usually have it all month. If you can't find it someplace, tell the manager.
As far as VW/Audi content; we usually have at least one, usually more, VW/Audi articles in a month. We do have limited space and we try to cover ALL of the European Industry so there are quite a lot of brands to cover.
The big European Magazines are awesome. They have a whole different business model than we do here in the states. If you look at the smaller European Magazines, they look very similar to our magazine.
Finally, if there is something different you want to see in european car, shoot us an email european.car@sourceinterlink.com

We get Audi Magazine, which, I think, is put out by AoA. It has some OK articles, but it's a "lifestyle" magazine, and it assumes that I like central african culture, tennis, space travel, and opera, all of which will somehow be compared to Audi automobiles, or the Audi Corporation.
For Christmas, I think Jen is going to get me a subscription to Audi Driver. If you've ever been to La Jolla Autotech, you have probably seen several copies on Lubo's coffee table. I haven't had much time to read it, but it looks like it has a lot of good pictures, and a lot about the engines and models we don't see stateside. I think it's a British publication.
Lubo gets another magazine, which is similar to Audi Driver. I think it's called Quattro, but I'm not sure.

All the Primedia Mags recently changed over to Source Interlink, but yeah, same company.
I don't know how often you read ec, but we have had tons of VW tuning content lately. When I started with the magazine, something like 9 or 10 months ago, one of my objectives was to bring both tech and VWs back into the mag in a big way. We do Proven every month where we take tuner products and dyno them. We give you the actual numbers and graphs from the dyno. Some parts have done very well and made more power than claimed, some have done less than claimed, and one or two have even lost power, and we printed it.
I don't want to turn this into a big ec ad, so I will just say that we recently have done, and we will continue to do many things that will either directly focus on, or apply to VW/Audi Tuning.

those magazines cost $7-$8 to buy over there. It's not a markup, it's just the way magazines work...
we're lucky the prices aren't higher with the exchange rate so bad...

This is true, I have a copy of Evo and Top Gear sitting on my desk, one is 3.75 and one is 4.20
The exchange rate is right around 2 dollars USA to 1 Pound.
Keep in mind that there is almost no markup on the magazines, all the profit comes from advertising. The European guys have a tough time justifying selling at cost over here because most of their advertisers don't really feel that the exposure in the US is somthing they can put a value on. Sure, US readers may know what a Vauxhall or a Lancia is, but it's not going to increase their sales.

I've researched the costs, if you're really interested.
Printing 10k copies will run you around $14k give or take. Newstand Distribution takes around half of your cover price (if you sell the mag for $5, the distributor takes around $2.50). That's not including the expenses of getting the content, mailing out to subscribers, etc...

I've read EC back in the days when I used to work at Eibach, but since then I haven't. Now I am in the process of buying a MKIV GTI, I am trying to stuff my head with as much knowledge and information as I can get my dirty hands on....
BTW, do you know a Jordan May over there??
