I popped my hood the other day to check my horn relay cause i haven't heard my Hellas scream in some time...and instead saw two wires that weren't plugged into anything...further investigation found this little gem loose in my engine bay....was formerly mounted on top of my throttle body.

and why is it broken?

Just a guess, but I think it's my WOT sensor...the car runs fine, I never would have known it was broken if I hadn't popped the hood...but am I potentially doing any damage?

<super pissed.

so, it's my WOT switch...

does its not being there have any real effect i should know about?

the WOT switch just switches to a different fuel schedule that isn't dependent on the readings from other sensors when activated. You should be fine without it.

better gas mileage?

It also tells when the throttle is it idle too doesn't it? It shorts when the throttle is closed and when it is all the way open. At least that is what it is supposed to do via the Bentley, and how it tested in my Digi 8V.

car runs fine, so I'm not particularly worried...if i were running lean or rich i'd probably fix it...but eh, it's not even broken, just unplugged and broken off it's mounting tab

If it gets bothersome, I think I have that mounting bracket for it just sitting in my garage. urs, no charge :)

The switch is just that, a switch; it's either open or closed. If it's open then the ECU controls fuel based on O2 and a couple other sensors, if it's closed the ECU ignores all sensors and runs a predetermined fuel map.

Tiny, I think your confusing the WOT switch with the throttle position sensor.

Rollin, what motor is this on?

It could cause a run lean condition if you do alot of WOT driving it will damage the engine.

Worse case is that it runs lean at full throttle. Not good but unless you drive like that all the time, should be ok but eventually you will want to replace the bracket. (or weld it back together)

Basically this switch, when hooked up and working properly, tells the ECU that it needs 100% fuel. Much like if you disconnect the o2 sensor. Runs in open loop, max fuel.

RollinGreenz........ former owner of the 83` here , just caught some of your posts I have been MIA for a while ... here is some info on your car..... just thought I would finally hook you up on some accurate info , sorry it took so long

Engine block is ..... 2.0 ABA 96' or later... no oil squirter's
Cylinder head is ..... 90' hydro
Brake system is all from an 88/89 16v scirocco
That dam bracket I told you about when you purchased the car..... the full throttle switch.... for what ever reason the stock bracket repeatedly broke so I fabbed up that gettho version, not something i am too proud of....
any other questions feel free to post up
hope that helps

OH yeah! the exhaust manifold is of the A2 variety and the down pipe is custom and also not something I am all that proud of....

Hey Antrim what's up? I was actually snooping around online trying to find a phone number for you the other day, but it's like you're fully off the grid lol

the clutch is going a little soft on me...when i'm on the gas goin' up a hill...like say...the grapevine...the motor will gain revs while the car maintains speed or slows down...so the clutch, for whatever reason, isn't grabbing as hard as it should be....so when I put the new clutch in, it's also getting new tranny/mtr mounts, a rear swaybar, some transmission seals, a timing belt, maybe a waterpump...basically anything that I can reach while i'm down there.

I replaced the lifters, they still make a shitload of noise...sounds like a baseball card in bicycle spokes...i've wondered if it's valvetrain related, with the taller cam i'm considering HD springs and retainers to keep things in line.

the WOT switch mentioned...well...still haven't fixed it...but there isn't a whole lot of WOT driving to be done up in Santa Cruz anyhow.

the exhaust manifold thing bums me out a little since i drove up to la mirada and got a $40 parking ticket to pick up a Mk3 manifold that won't work...good doorstop though!

keep in touch man! and thanks for passin' on the awesome ride!

Dam man , valve noise?? That head is built!!!, already has HD springs..... Autotech cam with adjustable gear.... so I don't know why its making any noise.... double check oil level,,, check oil pressure, you will have to install a gauge or rigg something for that, dont jump at anything too drastic till you know what the issue is,,, you'll just chase your tail. AS far as the clutch goes I am surprised at that too... been drag racing??? HA sorry man, well the pressure plate is 1.8 liter 16v type and the clutch disc is 8v style , This is the same set up that techtonics sells as a factory plus setup..... sorry brother the car is frankenstien but thats whats great about it..... Drop me an e-mail and I will give you my number....
Timing belt
OH and the timing belt is of the two liter species... I believe, dam its been a while but my buddy built the same engine after me , I can double check,
Sway bars
things keep jumping at me when i read your post... The rear sway bar, now some people will argue this till they are blue in the face, but take it from me... the front sway is a size larger than stock... and the rear is already in place, so installing a larger or different one in the rear is probably not a good idea, the car will already rotate in a corner if you lift off the gas, trust me i have had the rear end out on a few occasions and this is not normally the case for a front wheel drive car. If you or any one does not believe me, take that thing to your closest autocross and have a pro throw the car around... they will probably tell you to replace the springs and leave the sways alone!!

Hope this helps... try not to jump to conclusions too fast, people assume a lot about that car, it is hard to diagnose if your not the one who built it, or you know what the parts are... sorry about the exhaust manifold
