What's the deal with it? I always hear some ppl on forums saying they just did it on their stock turbo blah blah blah, I just don't understand what it's all about.
Could someone please tell me what the heck it going on with it

When exhaust gases are not needed to propel the impeller of a turbocharger the excess gas is "dumped". In stock systems this gas simply bypasses the impeller and goes directly into the exhaust system.
Dumping the wastegate means that when excess gas needs to be dumped, it is not dumped into the exhaust but dumped into the atmosphere. Some say this prevents the exhaust from having two sources of exhaust flow that can cause turbulence and backflow. Others do it just because they want to hear an annoying roar when they floor it.
This is hard to do with stock turbochargers (like your K03) as these usually have an internal wastegate and to create two exhaust flows you would have to "divorce" it into two pipes: one for the impeller exhaust and one for the wastegate exhaust. You'll never really be able to 100% divorce the gases and I seriously doubt you'll see a performance gain. You're better off increasing the diameter of the exhaust system to something large enough that the turbulence and backflow are negligible, so really, you're just doing it for the noise.

Ya what he said. In all Honesty the biggest noticable difference in performance was changing out the stock downpipe to the Eurosport Tuning Downpipe that I did. Granted the exhaust is noticably louder but for a good reason. It seemed to "un cap" if you will the power of the car. The stock down pipe is very restrictive and heavy at that. Even the 2.5" pipe like I have is drastically larger then the stock down pipe. Although down pipes are expensive they are worth it in the back pressure relief and the "in the seat" power difference you will feel.

ok now I understand, Well I have a KO3 sport. I also have a 3" down pipe. Yeah it would be cool for the noise but it would get my tickets so no thanks!
But I appreciate the input now I finally understand what it's all about, thanks guys
Open dump sounds like garbage.
