I need everyones opinions on the ABD L.A.N. cold air intakes. I red a magazine a while back with the intake shoot out and they came out on top...but are they really the best?

meh..
i have had it since 04? its ok. nothing too special.
although it was a difficult to install, but then again it was my first dub and i had no help. haha.
i dont use abd products. in my past experiences with thier products, i found them bad fitting and exaggerated in what they improve.

the only major difference i saw between AEM's 2.5" CAI and ABDs 3" bir bore intake was the sound...with abds i got a nice wooosh sound when i put on the gas. and on the street you could hear it sucking up that fresh air

I'll vouch for ABD, but then again I don't have any of their products. I'm just friends with the owner's brother and I've ridden in a few of their project cars.

Thanks for all y'all help. I have a friend with their intake and on a dyno he put down 13.9 horse power with the intake from a stock motor. Please...if your know a better project and have some facts to back it up...i'm willing to look into it.

i trust abd's stuff i use it on all my cars and its works good i think there products are good quality and reliable. Plus they must be doing something right when they get t.v shows and get awards for the products.

What does he drive and what motor?
For a 1.8T, the general consensus is that a CAI is mostly just a noise adding mod (whoosh etc.) but really doesnt do much at all for power. I tried 4 different ones on my old 1.8T (evoms, carbonio, ATP and AEM), couldnt tell the slightest of difference performance wise...they're all just filters on a stick.

lol thats funny. you couldn't tell the difference? go 100+ stock vs. cai and let me know if you can tell a difference ..... lol .... o wow, now thats funny.

wtf is 100+ stock? are you talking about 100+ temperature?
Besides the point, people have logged their g/s maf reading and it was actually the best with a smoothened airbox.

These intakes are so simple, just a madrel bent tube with a filter on the end(just what SP00LN siad). By no means are they some engineering break through. I wouldn't pay $239 dollars for the ABD intake (too much for a CAI that isn't even CARB legal).
A cold air intake on a turbo charged car is redundant IMO, the intercooler is what cools the air before combustion.

there was a forum awhile back on just getting a k and n drop in and cutting the side of the box on the oem box and it dynoed the same as a cai system i believe dont really remember but its like 15 dollars over 200dollars with just about the same results

not to mention the cool air sucked in by the cai gets heated up again as soon as it hits the turbo

Id have to agree. A CAI on a 1.8t is not much more than a noise adder. Sure you get a cool woosh when your DV opens, and it sounds cool when you accelerate, but its not really anything more than that. I have the Injen CAI.... but I got it for free, so why not use it, ya know?

(quotes/replies from vwvortex.com on thread: Carbonio CAI vs. EVOMS V-Flow)
I know...I know...it has little to do with ABD
All intakes do the same thing...make noise.
Don't waste your money.
Actually the V-Flow is one intake out of the pool of 1.8T intakes on the market that actually does show improvements.
I made a test thread a couple years back on this for stock turbo, and DonR did one for a 28rs. The V-Flow shows some good gains in MAF readings which shows more airflow. THe reason is behind the design of it, which utilizes a velocity stack...but this isn't something new.
For an even better price, check out http://www.bpinitiatives.com for their "flowstack" intake which is identical to the design of the Vflow without all the fluff. $100 gets you the vstack and a 6" K&N airfilter. Just get a coupler for your application and you're set.
The nice thing about this style intake is it grows with your setup instead of restricting it.
http://www.siliconeintakes.com = best site ever.
Get your coupler there.
Checked out the site and it seems that $100 gets you a coupler with everything...
"The ASM30601 is a full flow stack kit, including Flow Stack VS300600, K&N Filter RF-1048, Black 2-ply silicone coupling, and 2 stainless steel lined band clamps."
Definitely thinking about getting this. Just gotta find someone to buy my drop-in K&N...
Yea you can get a coupler with the setup but it's a 3" one. For a stock 1.8T MAF, you need a reducer down to 2.75" I believe. VR MAFs are 3" OD, and Jen's S4 MAF is 3.25" OD, so we had to use a 3.25" - 3" reducer. That's why I provided the siliconeintakes website as they have just about every size you could think of.
I have an extended question...
Where would I put the breather hose thingy that usually connects to the intake?
esetuning sells breather filters with adapters for $14.

Damn People...thanks for all the Feed Back...i'm still left with...what would be the best power adder. My tags are from Florida so Smog means nothing to me.
