View Full Version : Smog Check

My registration is up for renewal, and I am required to go to a "Gold Shield" location. I have a cold-air intake (carbonio) which is not CARB legal. I know when you go to get a smog check they do a visual check to see if you have any after-market parts. And if you do they ask for the CARB approved papers.
My question is, will I automatically fail the test based on just having an intake thats not carb approved? Or will they still run the smog test? I've gotten smog and passed before, but never at a "Gold-Shield" location. If possible i prefer to not uninstall my intake and reinstall my stock air box.
Suggestions? Comments?
Thank you,

You're more than likely going to have to swap your intake

an intake system is fairly easy to remove and reinstall, theyll run your car and fail it cuz of the intake, theyll take your money and then charge you again to retest the car later........... but its up to you

my car is also up for smog. i also have an intake but AEM, and with carb stickers. only worried about a couple of things, the blue silicon vacuum line coming off the turbo xs bypass valve and the neuspeed chip. but seeing that the chip is the mildest one out there should i be worried? no, there is no stock setting.

If they don't know about the chip, then don't tell them. If you have proof of purchase of the chip, call Neuspeed and see if they'll send you a CARB plate.
I would get rid of the blue vacuum line and replace it with a black one. Don't give them any more reasons to fail you.

I have an ATP CAI w/ K&N filter and AMS 1.1 Bar chip and I passed smog.
As for a visual inspection, the guy looked at my intake and said I have a book of approved CAIs and mine was not listed BUT I still passed.
At the end of the test, he commented that my car's emissons was very clean.
Take that for what it is worth. Hope that helps!
