ok guys and gals i have a 01 jetta 2.0 and im having misfire problems on cyl 1 and 4. i replaced the plugs and put a new coil in. i have even switched around the injectors to see if the misfire follows and it doesn't and did the same with the wires. i have also replaced the cam sensor on it. so im almost leaning towards that its a computer problem. i need help so i can get my baby back on the road the gas for my truck is killing me!!! oh yeah i swaped in a tt266 cam and dual valve springs. this happened after the cam was installed. and yes everything is timmed correctly i had a buddy come and do a vag-com on it and it shows the misfires and now when i used my scanner it shows the maf sensor but everything was ok beore this. when i took the cam out i forgot to take the gear off and snaped the sensor and so i replaced it but not sure if i bent the thing on the back of the cam for the sensor. and when i took the mani off i accidently touched the positive on the batt and it sparked but nothing major. pls help me out here if you have a comp for the 2.0 or a cam gear and maf let me know so i can rule out these things thanks!

Are you sure you didnt bend a valve? Some 2.0's register the wrong cylinder when seeing a misfire. Make sure cylinder 4 is really cylinder 4 and not another one. Waht thing are you talking about bending? the sensor on front of the head?

there is a plate on the back of the cam sprocket that passes through the cam sensor. im pretty sure i didn't bend a valve because i have good compression. how can i tell if it is really those cyl misfireing? when i pulled the injectors to swap around i looked in the head and it looks like those 2 were the only ones that were more wet than the other but couldn't really tell for sure

well im going to double check the compression on it to make sure because i was reading on the tex that some cams will bend a valve but tt told me the cam was designed to run on that car. but i did have the crank on the wrong stroke so i will double check that. reading those posts got me woundering lol

The best way to check is with a cylinder leakdown tester. Compression test can some times be misleading.

i'll have to see if i can get one at the parts store if not then im stuck with the comp tester

ok i just did a comp test and found out that on cyl 1 and 4 have no compression so i bent a valve on each. and was running only on 2 cyl. well i guess its off to finding a new head for the car!

Why not just replace the bent valves?

well i want another head so i can do crazy p&p on it while i can drive it. so i can start building a crazy motor as i can afford it. and also depends on the damage it did

ok i just got the head gasket kit for the car and now i just ordered supertech racing valves for it so it will flow more air. also going to port it out at the same time. i figured i might as well do it now since its apart and set the head up nice for the 266 cam i have for it. then im sending the chip off to tt to be custom burnt for the specs on my car. thanks all for your help on this! hope the valves come on friday like promised and then i will assemble it and try to get out to some meets soon

i would say change your valves re map the ecu with a stock flash that giac or someone would give you and chek that all cylindars are firing and you should be cool

well i know all are fireing because i pulled the plugs and saw them sparking. i definatly know its the bent valves because cyl 1 and 4 had no compression and 2 and 3 cyl had 173 on both

so change the valves and check compression and then if it still misfires you might need a quik remap but i doubt it that would be your last resort

Actually those valves dont flow more air, they are to give better friction loss so you can rev the motor higher. Kind of overkill on a stock motor but its your motor, enjoy!
Did you get Titanium retainers too? What about HD valve springs for the cam?

when i got the cam i got the springs and retainers also. i went overkill on it so when i finnally deside to go turbo if i even do i know i have goo valvetrain

Ahh, didnt know that. Makes sense. Most people just want to go the cheapest route. Good to see you can step it up! cool!

yeah i figured for a few bucks more i would get the good valves for it instead. they will go nicely when it is ported out. im debateing on shaving the head for more compression but i heard it doesnt need it. what do you think?

if you plan to go turbo, dont do it.
If not, shaving it wont be a huge gain but a gain nontheless.
