I got some work done on my MK2 GTI, and they did a great job at reasonable price.

Brett is the guy! Quality work, and he won't let the car leave until it is done right. The amount of detail/effort he put into a single exhaust hanger on my car is more than most shops put into an entire exhaust system. I had him install and adjust my Magnaflow catback. The adjustment needed was definitely more than a "bolt on" system should require. I highly recommend American Muffler.

They did my resonator delete on my X5. Quality work at a great price!

I had Brett redo all of Tanks work, and he hooked up my Rabbit as well. He likes 6 packs as well ;)

I had my setup done at a highly recommended, highly reputable shop first time around, and wasn't 100% happy with it. Stopped by Brett's shop, and even though I didn't do anything with him at the time, he took the car on the lift, did a full inspection, and advised me on what he would have done differently. Knowledgeable guy to talk to, and I'm actually going to stop by his shop to have an x-pipe made and to realign my mufflers to fit more flush in the valence. The other shop wasn't optimistic in being able to do it, but Brett was confident that it was easy. Highly recommended.

Yeah, I like how Brett explains everything. You may want to give him a call first M55555. He is always busy and I can see him get "irked" whenever someone would just show up and interrupt him. It is only him and an apprentice, so he has his hands full.

welded in a mid muffler, replaced rear muffler, and bent up a simple clean tail pipe.

Done quick, reasonable pricing, good stuff :tup2:

i had him bend a charge pipe for me. first off he charged me 80 bucks...thought it was kinda steep, but he came highly recommended so i paid it. i had a coat hanger bent the way i needed it to be bent. when i took it home to put on the car, it wasn't even close to where it needed to be, so i took it back to him. he said it was out of his hands and that i would have to pay another 80 bucks for him to fix it. i was angry. i left, went to jacks muffler in north park.. gave the guy the hanger and showed him what american muffler had made, he laughed, charged me 30 bucks...made it perfect the first time. now i see that i'm the only one that has had a bad experience, or at least posted it, but i for one will never send my business their way again.

Yeah for sure, I never stop by a shop without talking to them first over the phone. Thanks for the heads up tho :p

Fenix420: No shop is perfect, and there is always some who just don't "click" with the shop. How far is Jack's from AM?

Though I've never technincally had a bad experience with American Muffler it seems like their attitudes varies depending on which way the wind blows. On some days they're willing to be proactive and offer suggestions yet on some days it would seem like you're not worth their time. For any minor easy job I wouldn't mind taking it there however they don't like to venture outside the box.

For major work such as 3 inch mandrel I prefer Ed Hansen's and for small weird requests I use La Mesa Muffler. Rick at La Mesa Muffler will do anything you ask of him as long as it isn't illegal and he backs up his work. In other words he doesn't make you pay if there is an adjustment that needs to be made.

I had my first setup done at Ed's. Just my luck, I didn't get the type of experience I was expecting after reading other people's post. If you go to Ed, make sure Ed or his #2 man does the work. The 3rd string guy didn't cut it, which is why if I have to return next time, I'll request him not to touch my car.

Yeah that's Rick's shop.

I honestly didn't know what to expect with Ed Hansens when I took my car there. I only knew they would be able to do a custom 3" mandrel catback AND fit the piping between the control arm and chassis without rubbing. Everyone else said it wasn't possible so that's where I ended up taking it. I was pleasantly surprised. Never had a single problem and the piping was even coated similar to aftermarket exhaust systems for half the price of something that didn't exist at the time. I guess I got lucky and got Ed or the #2 guy. :D

What are AM's hours? I can't find them anywhere on the internet and they aren't picking up the phone.
