unplug it from the wall underneath the sink.....then reach your hand into the muck and pull out whatever is in there.....

most importantly though...HAVE FUN!

well...i guess unplugging it is most important...and remembering not to breathe in the nasty putrid ground up food fumes is high on the list as well.

Plug the side of the sink that DOESN'T have the disposal, run some water into the disposal side, then turn on the disposal, w/o letting any air go through the non-disposal side of the sink. You should notice the water all of a sudden go down faster on the disposal side. Then you should be good.

ok i just tried that damien and yea the water did shoot down faster but i could also feel the pressure trying to come up on the non disposal side. but as soon as i turned off the disposal the water came rushing back up on both sides...

hahaha . . . . it's a clog in your pipe . . . the trap ("U" shape) is probbaly clogged, tjhat is why it is coming up the other side of the sink. Just pull it out. Maybe wait a while for it to drain, the less water, the better. But when you pull the piping off you'll see.

I've done it a few times... Sometimes it takes multiple attempts... Sometimes once water is in both sides, I plug up both sinks... it's a game...

but yea, the 'J' or 'U' pipe is likely ur culprit. You could do it right and pull that thing off. Be prepared for some grossness... lol

the "U" pipe is clear...i pulled out all the plumbing from under the sink and their isnt any clogs...but damn1!! does is smell like amonia down their! when i stuck the flashlight in the drain to see if the disposal was clogged it looked clear.... and like i said when the disposal is on the water flush's down normally but when i turn it off it still goes down but after a few seconds it starts to bring the water back up...

it sounds like when the water goes down, it is just displacing air because the disposal is giving it enough pressure to force the water down. But when you turn it off, the pressure equalizes, and the water comes back up... Sounds like the clog is further down your pipe.

You need a pipe snake.

Different from my pants snake ;)

But yeah, you have a clog further down that pipe. Time to go fishing Ted...

Ours did that once. Poured boiling water and EPSOM SALT down the disposal side and cleared that puppy right up. Don't ask how. Neighbor said to do it and it worked. No problems since.

my disposal has been acting like this over the past couple of days. I'll try this solution and let you know the results.
