No, just an "ism".
LEO, Cop, etc. Has no specificity.

How long does it take from the day you apply to when you get hired?

That depends on the agency that you want to get hired on to, and if they take any previous LEO experience and training. Each agency has an approximate timeline on their recruiting page.

from the day i applied with the SB sheriffs until when i got the actual acceptance letter it was maybe 1-2months. and its in 3 phases..
written exam
physical exam
then the last is the backround check

when u pass those then u finally get accepted to teh academy which for sheriffs is i think 6mos.

I'll help with the testing of drugs. :D

The easy parts of entering the world of law enforcement are the written and physical exams.
Backgrounds can be a PITA if you've moved or held quite a few jobs.

Most difficult entry exam is the Border Patrol and the first few weeks of PT were not so much fun either.

I understand that now the acadamies ( police ) are leaning heavily on the books and backing off on the PT sections.

Good luck in pursuing your career. :tup2:

im not really worried about the drug test unless they do hair samples...
as for teh backround check i had a lvl 2 security clearance in teh army so im not that worried i got nothing to hide. but my adventures with mary jane in the past will be the only thing stopping me.

as for emphasizing more on books then PT is kinda dumb...thats why u see fat LEOs. granted i know alot are big but can still run, i think it should be a mix of both

At the BP acadamy most of the drop-outs were due to not being able to pass PT.
Have to love running at that place.

I spoke with an officer from SDPD and he mentioned that they too were not going balls out on the PT portion like in years past. They've only eased up on that program not made it sissified.

Try the Border Patrol PT program. I had a great time there. The training is very intense in all aspects. IMO the most difficult ( PT wise ) BASIC training outside of special forces.

Good luck and be safe.
