Im a member of a few Volvo forums and decided to join this one as it seems you have a serious lack of volvo members. But one of these times im gonna come to one of your guys meets. Well heres my new baby:

Well I have been searching for an 850 for about 10 months. Only the last 3 months did i actually get some cash, but I had managed to save about $4000 towards a Yellow T-5R. I planned to have about $9000 before I actually got one, but I still kept looking. These cars are very hard to find in yellow, as only roughly 180 actually made it to the United States. One day I searched craigs list (a local internet sit) and someone had listed a yellow T-5R for $3800, price negotiable. So figuring its damaged I called the guy a few time and left some messages and eventually went to see it. It had 133,000 miles (a litte more then i wanted, but for the price I made do). I was in really good condition for the year and drove very well. So i asked him how negotiable the price was and he said hed give it to me for $2800. So i bought it, figuring its a salvage title, but carfax came up perfect. So I think i just got a great deal.

Some problems it has:
1) low beams on headlights didnt work (fixed)
2) seat switches turned moter on but didnt work (fixed)
3) turn signals didnt work (fixed)
4) A/C doesnt work (figured out its the evaporator)
5) No gas cap cover (already found yellow replacement)

Heres some pics:

Heres working on the seat:

Front (grill was fixed after, its no longer crooked)

Well man Great Find.

Now you gotta spend the rest of that 9G you were planning for an engine rebuild and turbo upgrade.

Don't bother with the cosmetics till you know the mechanics are solid.... OR YOU'LL REGRET IT!

Yeah most of the cash I saved will go to dropping a low milage (under 60k) engine in there and swapping it to a manual tranny, then of course its a run through the engine and replace all the worn parts, like the o2 sensors, vacum lines and piping with silicone, and sparkplugs.

blame it on the general american audience

its the same reason, the RS6 even comes in a sedan ...
its the same reason, the US is filled with heavy pig SUV's
its the same reason, station wagons are perceived as soccer mom vehicles

the american audience prefers sedans and they drive automatics

The American audience?

SUVs are becoming popular in Europe.

Station wagons are not considered soccer mom vehicles -- SUVs are. Almost all wagons in the US are sport wagons from European performance car companies.

The world at large prefers automatic.
Car enthusiasts prefer stick. Everyone else? Not one bit.

And I'd give my stick away in a heartbeat if I could have DSG.

if you go out to Europe, i believe most people drive stick

now i cant say that they prefer them

i believe most countries in europe require your driving test to be with a manual vehicle as well

Stick is dead/ (http://www.aiada.org/article.asp?id=22886)

By 2012, just 6 percent of all vehicles sold in the North American market will have manual transmissions

The trend is also occurring in European markets, where manual transmissions are losing ground to automatics. In the United Kingdom, automatic transmission installations are on pace to reach 15 percent of all models, up from 13.5 percent five years ago

wow ... 15% !!

Canada and US are at 90% sold in 2002 being auto.

The answer is pretty simple: Americans and Canadians drive more -- hence, our cars have more development in the area of convenience.

we'll at least Canada gets some more models in manual than US :(

sad

Only the US 850's got stuck with all turbo automatics regardless of model. Everywhere else (including Canada) got manual turbo cars. Not untill the S70's did we get manual turbo cars.

Im snagging up a nice yellow T5R from a buddy this month too :D

Obviously most Americans prefer Autos, but still ... my Golf is a stick, my friend's mk3 Vr6 Jetta was a stick, another friend's b5 Passat was stick ...

Yet Volvo still doesn't make many sticks for the US. At the SD auto show, the friend who drove the passat [wrecked it a while back, has an old auto volvo now] was checking out the new Volvos, even the S60R there was auto. The Volvo rep. told us you can't even get stick as an option in most volvos.

If the Subaru SVX hadn't been auto-only, none of you would know me :p

Not the US spec DSG. No launch control. Soft program for soft people. Have a big mac.

Sweet find dude! I talked to your pops yesterday(cool guy) and checked out the ride. I am so glad you are saving that T5-R instead of letting rot away in a storage yard.
I am still waiting on the dealership for the radio code, as soon as I get it I will give you guys a call.
Don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions or need help in any way.
Jason

Bring that thing down to the meets, we need some more volvos down there!

Actually the S60's, R's, S40/v50 all have optional manuals.

Most volvo rep's dont have a clue :corn:
