Eradic gauages

I was just wondering if anyone knows what could be causing all my gauges (mainly my speedometer) to be moving up and down a lot and not work at all sometimes. I own a 97 gti vr6. I've had my speedometer sensor replaced, my ground wires checked and cleaned, the gauge cluster has been checked too and I had my battery checked too and its perfectly fine. This doesn't happen all the time, but its getting really annoying. A MIL light shows up occasionally too which is because of the speedometer i think. It might possibly be my aftermarket chip i have (neuspeed p-chip) but i'm not sure cause i somehow lost my stock one :(

If your MIL light is on, it will store an error code. You need to find out what the stored error is. I'm not sure if you can use a VAG-COM on your car or not. Do you have a Bentley manual?

well the guy who tried to fix my car said the light was for the speedometer
it goes on and off though

I have the manual that came with the car but its unfortuantely locked in my glove department which is broken lol

Sorry, I don't have any ideas. You might want to have someone double check the speedometer sending unit to make sure it's okay.
