$ 1000 and a "big" gain are two terms that don't like each other ;). Exhaust and chip doesn't sound bad for a thousand dollar deal

Go with the GIAC software and an Autospeed exhaust. The exhaust is a bit pricey, but has the best sound. Check out their site: http://www.autospeedperformance.com/

surge issue is pretty much gone with the newest updated flash. Different driving habits are needed when driving the car after it is flashed. Do you have unitronic on your vehicle?

I have the latest revision of the GIAC and love it, no surging, just lots of low end torque.....but for the money, i'd say Chip it and do a Turbo Back Exhaust.....I have GIAC and 2.5" dp and still debating on the exhaust cause i likes the GLI quiet! If you want BIG gain, you may need a little more than that.....like 3-4 times that. Good Luck!

Go turboback mang. Otherwise...Magnaflow will give you the best sound.

I have a Techtonics 2.5in downpipe and a Magnaflow 2.5in catback and love the sound. He is selling a custom GLI exhaust for a great price, but a 3in. may not be a good thing for a stock turbo.

2.5" is MORE than enough for a chipped 1.8t.......you only need 3" if your doing big turbos
magnaflow actually isnt that great of a sound on a 1.8t (ronnie aka adidaratm) has it and its very mellow, even on the freeway when he blasts by me.
from what ive read the downpipe is where its at on the exhaust for a 1.8t.

well to me, everyone has the same opinions, just different brands
chip, downpipe, exhaust will give you great power gains on a 1.8t
but, $1000 wont get you chip dp exhaust

actually if u get a hook up for the DP and Exhaust it can be done for less then $1000 if u jus go custom exhaust it should put u right at $1000

I concur...
About 500$ for chip + 250 dp (new used depending on brand) + custom cat back 250$ (depending on shop) = $1000
Of course if you know people and/or the shop has good prices...
