Hello - This is the Autotech Q-Chip I've had on my 2.0 for three years. This will work on any MKIV 2.0L from 99-01. You need to have a cartridge soldered onto the circuit board of the ECU for this to work. Autotech did it for free when I purchased the chip, so I'm sure the would do it for a small fee. I bought the chip for $200, I'll sell it for $75. So if you can get Autotech to solder the cartridge in, you can save a good chunk of change here. The chip is sealed in the ECU, so it obviously doesn't wear out like other auto parts.

I don't think so...I think starting with the 02's they used a different ECU...you can check with Autotech, but I'm pretty sure that's the deal.

Here's what their site says: "The Q-Chip for the Mk4 2.0L cars provides good gains in torque and horsepower at all rpm. The car's ability to run to the new, higher 6900 rpm redline is quickened, and the motor becomes much more responsive. Gains of at least 5 horsepower are seen from 4000rpm to 6000rpm. A nice way to liven up your new VW"
It even more effective with an intake and exhaust.
