are you talking about a mk4 8 valve 2 liter?
there are several 2 liter engines and you may be confusing the old 8 valve with the modern one. if you're talking about an 8v engine in a mk4, swapping it is a bad idea because you're going to be putting a 10+ year old engine (the 16V) into your car.
if you want to do a swap think instead of doing an 8v to a 20v turbo engine.

Sounds to me like he's asking for a MK4. There is a head conversion for 2.0 MK4s that gives a 16v head, although for the money, I'd say sell and buy VR6 or 1.8t. If it's not MK4, well then that's a whole other issue ;)

if he's going to do a head conversion i think that's a great idea but why not a 20V head. the only difference is two passage ways which you block off anyway. honestly being a 2 liter owner myself, if you want power it's going to cost you on these engines. if you aren't happy trade up to a more powerful engine. that's sounds terrible but i've spent almost 4k over the last 3 years on a turbo for my 2liter and i eventually just took it out.
