Hey guys-
Sorry about the double post on this, but I'm not getting a response in my other thread. I'm talking to this guy right now on AIM. What do you think of this pic? Are the threads at the top of the piston on one of these shocks stripped? Or is that where the strut mount rubs?

Hmmm, just zoomed in on it. Looks stripped to me, but I'm not sure if that's in a spot where it's gonna matter

That's why I'm wondering. As long as it doesn't matter, I'm going to make the purchase. But obvioulsy if it does, no go.

now I was just told he doesn't have the nuts for the strut mounts. I'm guessing I could grab those at Home Depot. What do you think? I feel like a puss right now! $850's a lot to spend on something you're not sure about. Maybe I just answered my own question...

i'd say no go. stripped anything on a bolt that important is bad. not only as the nut can't grip but the structural integrity of that piece is now ruined.

I agree. I was just hoping someone who has experience with MKIV coilovers would be able to say "oh no worries, that's just where the strut mount rubs" or something like that. I'm going to hold out for the next set.
Thanks guys!

good choice, I wouldn't have given it a second thought once I found out he was on the other coast. I've bought a few items for my A1 from that coast...but once it got to me, it was in bad shape from all the damn post office workers tossing and throwing in all the different delivery vehicles.

This shock mount thread was missing a vital piece when it was instaled last. A sleeve is supposed to go over that part of the thread. Not woth it

You should contact KW and see how much it would cost to repair any foreseeable problems, then do the math. It might still be cheaper to buy these and repair them than to buy a new set. Keep in mind also that these will more than likely not have a warranty. Is a warranty worth the extra you would pay for a new set?
Looking at your other post where you said:
all parts intact including the instructions and adjustment wrench.
then in this thread you said:
now I was just told he doesn't have the nuts for the strut mounts.
I'd pass too

Ah - good insight. I'm not into having these repaired. I would either wait for another used set in better condition, or just sack up and buy new ones.
