well i finally got all my parts in ( integrated engineering rods, rod install kit from qedpower.com. peloquin lsd from kermatdi, used head from undergroundvwparts.) I'm driving up to washington tom to have everything installed. the only reason i'm driving that far is because of the killer deal i'm getting. ($1000 for rod install and lsd install) and because i know the guy and i know how good of a job he does. the drive back down will help me with the break in period of the engine..then it's boost time! gonna run prob 18psi or so for low boost and 23-24psi for high boost. once everything is broken in and dialed in i'm gonna take it to the track and see what she'll do. i'm hoping for some mid 12 second runs out of it. then i'll take it to the dyno and see what she's putting down. gonna look to get uni or tapp software shortly after that..i bought a dirtbike...so that's kinda been where all my extra time/money has been going to lately. anyway..just thought i'd share my excitement. ;)

little update....i'm super angry right now. so i drove up to washington to have the motor and the diff done, first thing that happens...the head i bought from undergroundvwparts.com is garbage..so i can't use it. i specified when i ordered it that it had to be completely ready to be bolted on and they assured me that they pressure check, clean and fix all issues before they ship...WRONG...first the packing job looked like a 2 year old did it..seconde...the head might as well be a 500 dollar paper weight..so that's super. so anyway..motor is done, just put new seals in my head..hopefully that fixed that issue. so now to the diff. when i ordered my peloquin, they ask for your vin number to insure that you get the right diff for your car. (aparently there are issues with certain years) so you'd assume that i'd get the right diff since i gave them my vin number....WRONG...its the wrong one. so i call the guy at peloquin, and i actually have to pay the shipping BOTH WAYS for them to ship the right housing out to me. now i'm on military leave right now and time is of the essence...so i really don't have time to be dealing with these issues...that shouldn't have been issues in the first place...anyway...that's where we are now. hoping to be back in san diego next week sometime.

well..here's the situation now...my morning was shot to he**!! so it turns out that i do have the wrong diff...and the guy at peloqiun said he wouldn't have one until april....super. so i'm like...well i guess i'll just have to order a quaiffe then...wrong...no one has one of those either..not even the quaiffe company. super duper. i'm effed right....so i think. i call everyone for like 2 hours..look on the forums..everything. just when i think i'm out of luck...i call techtonics tuning and they have one...the last one. so i ordered it...had to pay 80 bucks to have it next day air...but i have to have it. luckily, i called the guys at kermatdi where i ordered the first one and they are giving me my money back on the other one. i mean they are really stand up guys..i'd order from them again for sure. they were very helpfull and willing to do whatever it took to rectify the situation. so that's cool. my only other issue now is that the company i got the head from is giving me a fit about returning the head...i have to pay shipping and a 20% restocking fee...super...but at least things seem to be getting better. i'll let you guys know how she drives when everything is all back together.

yea honestly UGVWP is a hit or miss company... i ordered a rear axle from them for my jetta and everything came out well. but from all the threads on vortex about them it seems that if if your close enough to deal with them in person you will have NO problems with them. but the further out u are...the more they can get away with stuff sicne their to far to deal with....

well now you tell me...lol. at least i know now..and hopefully others will read this and see also.
Don't take this the wrong way, but doing this type of stuff for a living, you did several things wrong, driving to Washington to have work done was the first, let alone on the car you have to drive back, most, if any issues show up in the first 500 miles, loose bolts, leaks, incorrect measurements, which is a long tow. Also, being on a short time constraint, and dealing with a used head and aftermarket parts thrown in to was a recipe for disaster from the start, and the last thing you want to do when breaking in a motor is hold it in the same RPM range for 14 hours. I hope the rest of your trip gets better and is problem free.

i take no offense...this is strictly a thread to show my progress and i am open to all coments..good or bad. in response..the driving up to washington is a great idea. my roomates dad is doing the work for me and he is a phenomenal mechanic and has worked on my car before...and he's doing all that work for $1000.00...so the drive is definatly worth it. as for the issues in the first 500 miles...you are 100% correct..which is why i'm putting 500 miles on the car here and then changing the oil and THEN driving back to san diego...that was built into the time schedule from the beginning. the used head on the other hand....no it is not the best idea...but i didn't have the time..nor the money to have mine rebuilt..or go aeb (which is what i want to do)..it was just an issue that came up last minute that i did my best to resolve...turns out...used head..bad idea...when i ordered it..i was hoping to have time to at least have it checked out before i drove up here....but ugvp screwed up the shipping so i had to just have it shipped out here. anyway...just wanted to let you know that i'm not a complete idiot and i did actually plan this as best as could be...but...shi* happens...that's life. lol. thanks for the interest and the comments:tup:
Well hopefully those guys refund you. I would send the head to a machine shop, spend $75 for a deck and pressure test, when it fails, send UGVWP a copy of the receipt and ask them what they want to do, if you paid with a credit card, you may be in luck. Its like doing a head on a BMW, most of the used ones are bad, I advise people to buy a running motor out of a wrecked car and take the head and sell the short block since most BMW heads laying around are garbage, like most 1.8T heads are half full of bent valves. I gave one away about a year ago after I didn't use it for a project.

ok...update...got the car back today....runs great. i've got 100 miles on it already. can't wait to do the full break in. i'm gonna drive it for about another 2-300 miles and change the oil and then i'll be heading back down to san diego. i must say that i'm super excited...and i'm glad it's all over with..lol.

glad to hear you got back without any major issues, when is the Dyno????

april 18th is the dyno...but don't look for astronomical numbers..i'm going with 91 octane..i wanna see what my real world hp is...not race gas days...anyone have any suggestions on max boost to run?
ouch, max boost depends on alot of stuff.......... better check over on Vortex in the Technical forums...............

You'll need vag com; Keep cranking the boost until you start seeing timing pull, then back down just a little bit. If I had to guess....maybe 20-22psi.
I hope you gave the motor a good break in period.
