What is everyone using to stop spyware, viruses, and popups?

I'm currently using Norton Antivirus and Internet Security w/Personal Firewall.
I also run Adaware 6.0 and Spybot Search and Destroy(I think that's the name) and I'm still getting popups on startup and when I open IE.

Any suggestions?

Have you made sure to update them both?

I had that problem too. My friend fixed it and it's running soooo much better now. I don't get any pop-ups

I use McAfee, adware and spybot.

Search through your programs and delete whatever is not needed on your computer.
Do a virus scan
run: msconfig on your computer and uncheck any programs that are not needed at start up.
defragment
do a virus scan again
run adware and spybot more than once to make sure they have deleted everything.

It'll take half a day, but your computer will be running so much better after

Router.

Hardware firewall is much better than software imo.
Been almost 2 years and no problems for me, knock on wood.

This just covers Spyware/adware, not viruses.

I browse with Firefox

I prevent spyware and adware getting installed in the first place with SpywareBlaster. I also Immunize with SpyBot's immunize tool.

And when it comes time to scan, I use Ad-Aware SE and SpyBot Search and Destroy!. I have not had any problems with popups in the last year or so, and any time I've scanned with either of the scan tools, either generally finds fewer than 10 items. I've been able to go from scanning once a week to scanning once a month.

Ok, I did the following:
SpyBot S&D scan - found a bunch of stuff, got rid of it. Did the immunization.

Adware scan - found 1 item, got rid of it.

Norton Antivirus full system scan - found all sorts of crap, most disturbing was this worm that was associated with the file msstartup (think that's the name), I deleted all the files the program couldn't but said was dangerous. I blocked all the to the worm file thru Internet Security. I have to read up on how to actually remove all of its stuff tonight.

Installed Firefox. (I'm really enjoying this more than IE, thanks to all who recommended it.

Ran msconfig and removed unnecessary programs from startup.

I'm still getting these damn random popups though (I have DSL). Any more ideas? So far it's getting better.

I'm going to start in safe mode and run Norton again after turning off the recovery feature, I think maybe windows is backing up the spyware and the worm.

is one of the items that Ad-Aware finds called "VX/2"? I had a friend's computer get that and it was a complete BITCH to get rid of it.

I think it said W32.spybot, then something or other.

Ad-Aware considers Spybot spam. You shouldn't remove it. It kills Spybot.

Go through your running processes list.

thanks, it helped me immensely

(i found a program that i was told by this site to remove but i clicked on the link for the directions to remove it and all it did was send me to the microsoft website to download the service pack. i already had that service pack and the service pack 2, so do i still need to remove that program or is my computer safe from having the service pack?
