I will be selling my S4 in the very near future. I have APR software installed. If I turn it into the dealer, which is probably what is going to happen, is there anything special I need to do. Should I leave it in 91 octane mode? Will they try to reflash the computer? I would like for the next owner (hopefully an enthusiast) to to get a pleasant surprise when he finds out his car is chipped, but how do I get that past the dealer? I should just hide an SCE card with "CALL AAA" in the glovebox and if someone contacts me, I'll let them know what's up. Ok, that won't really work, but really, what should I do?

they will plug into it, and if its not factory they will know.....but i highly doubt they will do anything about it

I can lock the dealer out. But then I want the next gy to know that the car is chipped, so he'd hae to know, and unlock it.

if you lock the dealer out...there is a good chance they wont take the car..... they will plug into it before you trade it in

Well, it doesn't actually keep them out of the computer. They can still do all the VAG COM functions, but they just won't know that it has the software loaded. Even if they check specifically to see if it has software, they can't tell unless they unlock it.

if thats the case, just leave a note in the glove box for the next owner so they can put it back to the good settings....LOL

Leave it in 91 mode, and hope they don't change it, and put a note on the ECU, so if the new owner goes to chip it, they will see the note and know it is already. Otherwise just sell the ECU for a little cash and trade for stock.

It's going to be hard to accomplish this without selling privately.

I wouldn't worry about it. When you trade a car in, they don't even plug a scan tool into it unless the check engine light is on. All we do with BMW's is recondition them, put tires, brakes on them, do any needed services, smog (which a chip alone won't affect), fix any little door dings, rock chips, detail and out on the lot. We aren't concerned with things like that.

I would leave a SocalEuro card in the owners manual, someone will find it someday.

I forgot to add, most chips, like APR, will pull out the last WSC (work shop code) which was the last place to program it, 00000 is the factory, any other number is the dealer who programed it, the shop tester will program the dealer number in, APR, GIAC, I know pull it out, program the software, and rewrite the last WSC into the ECU, the dealer doesn't usually know, unless they are intune and drive the car, like the techs can tell the difference between a chipped, and non chipped 2.0FSI car, big difference in power and techs notice, S4 is definitely feel able, but since the shop isn't full of B5 S4's anymore, the techs don't drive alot of them anymore on a daily basis, they will probably only think its a really strong car, the only way to get rid of the chip, would be for the dealer to reflash the ECU and wipe it clean, which they wouldn't have a reason to do.

Dealer wont care. Just leave it as a present for the next buyer.

Just in case the dealer would try to get rid of it, (for whatever reason) I put it in stock mode and locked it. I left a SoCalEuro card in the owners manual. I took a Sharpie and wrote, "YOU ARE CHIPPED! APR code XXXX." I left another card inside the jack case. I figure those are the two most likely places for a new owner to look, but less likely for a dealer to look.

If there was any way to transfer or trade back the software or computers, to put it in the A6, DON'T TELL ME!
