Anyone here with a MKIV GTI and a monsoon radio with the stock speakers have an issue when they fade to the rears that the rear speakers are not equal in volume to the fronts???

My rears seem to be lower in the back by quite a bit and I am trying to see if this is normal....

The fix is easy -- turn the VOLUME knob clockwise. A torque wrench is not required.

there is no settings on the Monsoon amp and the fade knob is dead centered but even when its set to the rear on its own, its kinda quiet...

yea, easiest fix would be to turn your fade from center, to the back until the volume of the back is equal to the volume in the front and leave it there. that way when your turn your volume up/down it is equal in the front and back and will sound good.

It wont because the rear volumn is low....if I did that I would have to crank the radio to get a decent volumn.......

There's a VAG-COM setting that changes the fade depending on whether the Monsoon thinks it's in a Golf/Jetta sedan, wagon, Passat, or Eurovan. Sounds like yours may have gotten goofed up somehow.

iirc the wagon setting is actually the best sounding in a Golf, for some reason. Makes the bass really pump.

The Monsoon system is set up to basically set the volume of the speakers so that the driver is "centered" (one of the many reasons I ripped mine out).

With the fade and balance dials centered, the front passenger speaker is the loudest, followed by the front driver, then the rear passenger and then rear driver. It's got a front bias also so that the rear speakers will be noticeably quieter than the front just like you mentioned.

This is normal and by design, really the only way around it is to rip out the Monsoon amp (and crossover) and replace it with your own amp.

That was my suggestion, but you didn't like it.

this is true... monsoon is an active speaker system. basically what creanium said. the speaker output is not supposed to be the same at all speakers.
